I really, really can’t believe how time has flown by. It’s like someone’s used a Time Turner on me and not let me know. It’s been eleven long years since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out, and we all are still fascinated by J.K Rowling’s world of magic and it’s been a whole 2 years since the events of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Since leaving Hogwarts, our favorite three wizards and their Hogwarts classmates have made their own individual impact upon the wizarding world. Some of our favorite characters really did accomplish the unthinkable after leaving Hogwarts, whether it was being immortalized forever or becoming a Hogwarts teacher.
I am a huge fan of Harry Potter, and, like most of you, grew up in his world and with the accompanying movie franchise and computer games. I still even remember all the way back to 1997 when Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first published when I got my copy at the school book fair. That’s all very well and good, I hear you ask, I already know what happened to Harry at Hogwarts! But what happened to Harry after the defeat of Lord Voldemort?
Well, thanks to the continued efforts of J.K. Rowling to keep her franchise alive, we know a bit about it. Here are twenty things that Harry and his pals got up to after The Deathly Hallows.
20 Going For A Ride
A kind act by Mr. Weasley would have made Harry’s day and Sirius proud. After seeing that old motorbike blown into tiny pieces, it was restored to its former glory. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, during the operation to move Harry to the safety of the Weasley’s house, poor Harry and Hagrid crashed into the Weasley’s garden and Sirus’ motorbike took a rather savage beating.
And what I mean by that, of course, is that the modified Light Blue Royal Enfield (used in the film) completely disintegrated.
Mr. Weasley, hiding what he was about to do behind his wife’s back, took the broken pieces to his shed and repaired the motorbike with the aim of returning it to Harry. After all, it was his after he inherited it as part of his godfather’s will.
19 Back To Studies
Hermione was the only one of the trio who went back to Hogwarts to complete her final year of education and do her N.E.W.T.S., of course. It’s in Hermione’s nature to have her head in a book rather than being a fighter. Ron and Harry went straight into employment. Hermione always had Harry and Ron’s back, of course, but she felt most at home learning more about the magical world. However, Harry did often make returns to Hogwarts to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts to the Hogwarts students. Teaching, of course, is second nature to Harry after leading and teaching Dumbledore’s Army in the book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Who is more qualified than Harry to teach people about the dark arts?
18 Departmental Lead
After leaving Hogwarts, Harry achieved his dream of becoming an Auror. Ron also joined the department for a while. Harry rose through the ranks of the department to become its youngest head at the age of 26. Of course, this wasn’t the first achievement Harry had obtained.
He was also the youngest seeker Hogwarts had seen in about 100 years.
However, Harry was nothing if not a hard worker, with bucketloads of dedication. So it’s not surprising, really, that he was the head of his own department at such a young age. Ron left the department after two years to co-run Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes with his brother George, to assist him in a job he has always loved. After all, family is something close to Ron’s heart, especially after the passing of brother Fred.
17 Playing The Game
My favorite part of the books was the Quidditch. The Quidditch World Cup took place in the Patagonian Desert in Argentina in 2014, where Bulgaria won against Brazil. Harry, along with the rest of Dumbledore’s Army, attended the event as V.I.P.s where again they met up with Bulgarian Seeker Victor Krum, who of course won the match by catching the Golden Snitch. Ron was extremely annoyed about his wife’s ex-love being paraded around as a hero. Meanwhile, Harry’s son Albus applauded and lapped up the atmosphere, prodded on by his father. Rita Skeeter was also in attendance at the World Cup, however, she took unexpectedly ill when Ginny Potter hexed her. Bulgaria won the match 170-60, and the celebrations and the reunion of the DA continued long into the night.
16 Making Peace With The Enemy
Over the years that passed after the Battle of Hogwarts and the events that involved them, Harry and Draco started to develop a good relationship, mainly due to Harry’s son Albus striking up a strong friendship with Draco’s son Scorpius. Sadly, Draco sometime later lost his wife Astoria. Through this, though he had a deep and mutual respect for Harry’s son Albus.
He helped Scorpius with the grief of losing his mother.
During the crisis of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Draco and Harry developed a mutual respect and began to see themselves as maybe developing a friendship. Of course, this did not heal all past wounds, but Draco does admit, however, that he always envied Harry, Ron and Hermione’s friendship.
15 A Familiar Surname
After Hogwarts, Luna Lovegood went onto become a Magizoologist, which in muggle terms is a magical naturalist. She discovered and classified many species. However, she never found the Crumple-Horned Snorkack and had to admit that her father Xenophilius may have made it up. Luna went on to marry Rolf Scamander, a fellow naturalist, and grandson of the famous Newt Scamander of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them fame. According to the reporter Rita Skeeter, Luna wore a wedding dress of rainbows, spangles, and silver unicorn horns. Much to her husband’s shock, the dress itself was voted ‘Most Hideous Outfit of the Year’ by Rita Skeeter’s Readers. Luna had two twin sons, Lorcan and Lysander, who were adored by their famous great-grandfather, still living in 2017 and happily retired in Dorset writing a foreword to an edition of his new book.
14 Keeping In Contact
Harry and his cousin Dudley were never on the best of terms with each other growing up. Poor Harry was constantly bullied and tormented by his cousin, his aunt, and his uncle. However, Dudley and Harry remained on Christmas card terms with each other after the second wizarding war.
Dudley married an unknown muggle woman and had two children.
During Harry’s visits to Dudley, when he was in the neighborhood, Harry and Dudley would sit quietly and awkwardly opposite each other, while Harry’s children James, Albus, and Lilly would play with Dudley’s two. It’s not known whether Dudley ever returned to Little Whining in Surrey after the Order of the Phoenix evacuated them, though I expect he wanted to stay close to his remaining surviving parent.
13 Immortalised Forever
After Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s bravery and heroism at the Battle of Hogwarts, they each received their very own Chocolate Frog Card entry. Chocolate Frog Cards were cards that wizards collected and traded with each other. The Chocolate Frog contained within, however, had a spell in it, and if you weren’t quick enough it would escape, as Harry found out to his dismay in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Ron saw having his own Wizard Card as his Finest Hour, as J.K. Rowling stated at a Q and A session with fans. Ron’s daughter Rose often wondered why they were constantly stared at everywhere they went, with Ron assuring her and telling her not to worry as it was because he was really famous.
12 Professor Neville Longbottom
At the beginning of the Harry Potter series and throughout most of the books and the movies, Neville Longbottom is portrayed as an unlucky, oafish sort of character. However, as the character evolved, we grew to love him as he portrayed his bravery. We all know that Neville had a passion and a gift for Herbology as noted by Professor Spout.
Well, Neville also went on to do bigger and better things after the end of the series.
After a short stint as an Auror, Neville became Professor of Herbology and proudly showed off his DA coin to his students and kept in touch with Harry, Ron, and Hermione as well as marrying Hannah Abbott, his fellow DA member and landlady of The Leaky Cauldron.
11 A Proud Godfather
After the tragic passing of Tonks and Remus at the Battle of Hogwarts, Tonks’ newborn son Teddy was now an orphan. Teddy, of course, was named after his grandfather, who was ended by a group of Snatchers when on the run from Voldemort. Teddy was also lucky as he had Harry as his godfather. Harry, of course, had a similar upbringing as his godson, both of them never knowing their parents, and both sets of parents passing and fighting so the wizarding world could remain free. Teddy Lupin was present on Platform 9 and 3/4 kissing Victoire Weasley, Bill and Fleur Weasley’s daughter. They were interrupted by Harry’s son James, who was told to go away by Teddy.
10 Fred Junior
Fred and George were two of the most mischievous and loveable characters of the Harry Potter series. Tragically, of course, during the battle of Hogwarts, George’s twin brother Fred was lost in an explosion fighting alongside Percy Weasley. This was something George never got over, but he did find happiness with fellow Quidditch player and DA member Angelina Johnson, having two children Fred and Roxanne.
Fred, of course, is named in honor of his beloved twin brother and partner in crime.
George continued to run his business after the war with great success, servicing the patrons and fellow students and mischief makers of Diagon Alley. This dream, of course, would never have been possible without the funding from Harry Potter’s Triwizard Tournament money.
9 The Tale Of A Hero
Snape being the good guy all along was one of the biggest twists in the Harry Potter series. Harry wanted to make sure that Snape was remembered as a hero and not as a traitor. We know now that Snape was acting as a double agent for Dumbledore. Harry made sure Snape’s headmasters’ portrait was put into the headmaster’s office where it belonged. This act was an act of reconciliation between Harry and Snape. Their utter hatred of each other was one of the major themes of the Harry Potter series. Rita Skeeter, however, had her own personal thoughts about Snape, with her book about Snape’s life, Snape: Scoundrel or Saint. Harry also honored Snape in another way, naming his second son Albus Severus after him and commenting how Snape was the bravest man he knew.
8 Lost Language
To Harry’s surprise in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, he found out he could speak Parseltongue, the language of snakes. He discovered he was what’s known in the wizarding world as a Parselmouth. He later found out that this was the language spoken by Lord Voldemort as well, and that the power was transferred to him when he was attacked as a baby. That’s quite a lot for him to take in!
Harry lost this ability after Voldemort’s defeat.
However, Harry discovered during the events of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child that he regained the ability to speak and understand it. He was prompted to try it by Hermione while searching for his son Albus.
7 Waving Off The Next Generation
Like we all saw for a brief few moments at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry, Ron, and Hermione took the journey to Platform 9 and 3/4 to wave off their children. Hermione and Ron waved their daughter Rose off to her first year, Ron, of course, encouraging his daughter to become a Gryffindor and to beat Scorpius Malfoy at everything. Hermione scolded him and told him not to make them enemies before they even arrived at Hogwarts. Draco arrived with his wife Astoria and son Scorpius, who at Hogwarts would often try to get the attention of Rose. However, Scorpius and Albus struck up a lifelong friendship. Lily Luna, Harry’s daughter, showed the same enthusiasm as her mother all those years ago waving her brothers off to Hogwarts.
6 Brothers Against The World
Ron spent two years with Harry at The Ministry Of Magic’s Auror Department. He then decided to go to Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes so he could be with his brother George, who still would be struggling in the wake of his twin’s passing. Family, of course, was important to all the Weasleys.
They had all stuck together through thick and thin, despite Percy’s brief superiority moment.
Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, of course, was probably the best store in the whole of Diagon Alley. If I ever found myself there, that would be my first stop. Ron stated that he wanted to help George with the shop that he had always loved, and as a team, Ron and George made the business a money-spinning sensation.
5 Leading Lady
Professor Minerva McGonagall. I wish I had as much faith in a real teacher as I do her! After the Second Wizarding War, she was awarded the Order of Merlin First Class by the Minister for Magic at the time, Kingsley Shacklebolt. She also, much to her delight, featured on a Chocolate Frog Card, an honor she admitted she never thought she’d get. Minerva was headmistress until at least the year 2021, where she gave permission for Albus Dumbledore’s notes on The Tales of Beedle the Bard to be published. In the year 2020, she was the one who caught Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy after they had used a time turner to meddle with time. McGonagall then invited their parents in, reminding them that although their children were being noble, they must never forget the sacrifices of those lost in the war.
4 Soulmates
Harry first met Ginny in the Weasleys’ kitchen when she came bouncing down the stairs looking for her jumper. Ginny always had a thing for Harry, and Harry began to realize his feelings for her in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
After the war, they got married and had three children.
James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna were Harry and Ginny’s pride and joy. Ginny became a professional Quidditch player for the Holyhead Harpies, then after her retirement, she became a Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet. However, despite Harry and Ginny’s continuing love for one another, Ginny retained the ability to correct and put Harry in his place over his behaviors. She did things such as forbid him to do certain things when Albus went missing, in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
3 Being A Malfoy
Draco Malfoy, the boy we all love to hate, changed. We saw a bit of this change in character towards the end of the series. In the years since the Battle of Hogwarts, he grew into a mature adult. Draco married Astoria Greengrass, the sister of fellow Slytherin classmate Daphne Greengrass, and they had one son, Scorpius. Astoria, however, sadly passed before the year 2019, due to a family curse that made her body very frail. This left her son and husband devastated. However, Scorpius was helped through his pain by his friend Albus Potter. Draco gained a sense of great respect for the child, leading him to a greater connection to Harry. Draco also inherited Malfoy Manor, keeping all the dark artefacts, locking them safely away in glass cases.
2 What Happened To The Dursleys
Petunia Dursley, Lily Potter’s sister and Harry’s aunt, was a woman of great mystery. With a loud scream after opening the front door, she took in her nephew after his parents’ demise. Sadly though, sometime before the year 2020, Petunia passed away from unknown causes. Harry’s blanket, which he was wrapped up in when he arrived, and which she had kept, came back to Harry.
Harry then passed this blanket on to his son Albus.
Petunia proudly, and quite rightly, bust into tears when she saw her “Duddykins” shake hands and bond with Harry. One of the reasons that Dudley possibly never returned to Privet Drive was that he wanted to stay close to his remaining parent Vernon, who undoubtedly was still grieving over his beloved wife’s demise.
1 Top Of The Class
Hermione Granger: loyal friend, House Elf rights activist, and now, Minister for Magic! After the war, Hermione traveled to Australia and restored her parents’ memories. She then, of course, went back to Hogwarts to get her N.E.W.T.s. By 2017, Ron and Hermione were married with two children, Rose and Hugo. Hermione first started her ministry career at the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures department, and then became Deputy Head of Magical Law Enforcement. Hermione was also pivotal in the translation of The Tales of Beedle the Bard from its original rune format. Both her and Ron, of course, attended the 2014 Quidditch World Cup, Hermione having to elbow her husband in the ribs when he caught sight of the Veela.
