2020 hasn’t exactly been a stellar year, but there have been a few bright spots. Now, Star Wars fans can rejoice because Disney Plus has announced a new Star Wars holiday special that will air on November 17.

Unlike the previous Life Day celebration, which was also held on November 17 and celebrated nature, family, and new life on the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk, the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special picks up right after the end of The Rise of Skywalker.

According to Lucasfilm and Disney, Rey and BB-8 have left their friends to “gain a deeper knowledge of the Force” when they stumble upon a Jedi Temple, which takes them on a time-spanning adventure through Star Wars’ past. Rey is expected to encounter iconic Star Wars heroes and villains – including Darth Vader, Luke, and Yoda.

Rey will eventually find her way back to Kashyyyk, so she can enjoy the Life Day celebration with her friends. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will feature some LEGO tie-ins, such as the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar displaying characters from the special, and a LEGO Star Wars Holiday sticker book.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is a throwback to the Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978. The made-for-tv movie featured Chewbacca and Han Solo being pursued by agents of the Galactic Empire while they attempt to visit Kashyyyk to celebrate Life Day.

The special also introduced Chewbacca’s family: his father Itchy, his wife Malla, and his son Lumpy. It co-starred Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, R2-D2, Darth Vader and Princess Leia – all of whom were played by the original actors. The TV movie, which was slammed by both critics and fans, has never been rebroadcast nor officially released on home video.

The new CG-animated holiday special (which promises to be much more inoffensive) has been developed by Atomic Cartoons, the LEGO Group, and Lucasfilm. The project is helmed by Ken Cunningham, who has also directed LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar, and LEGO Marvel Spider-Man: Vexed by Venom. It’s still unclear whether or not any of the actors from the Star Wars films will lend their voices to the special.
