Only one week of Pride remains, but the freebies keep on coming. Sony is joining in on the celebration by offering a free Pride theme for the PS4, as well as a curated list of LGBTQ+ games for you to check out on the PlayStation Store.
Sony made an official blog post earlier today celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and detailing the ways in which it provides support through its different partnerships and initiatives. As part of the post, it announced that it has designed a PlayStation Pride 2021 wallpaper theme for the PS4 that can be downloaded for free through the PlayStation Store. In order to get the theme, you must redeem a code specific to your region.
This is not the first time that Sony has designed a wallpaper to celebrate Pride month. It is the continuation of a years-long tradition of encouraging players to show off their pride by “decorating” their consoles. The free theme is also not the first freebie to appear as part of the gaming industry’s Pride celebration this month. Some of the previous giveaways include Pride badges in Apex Legends, Pride Player Icons in Knockout City, and the opportunity to download Tell Me Why for free.
To go along with the Pride theme, PlayStation has curated a list of over 50 game titles for the PS4 and PS5 that highlight LGBTQ+ characters, themes, and experiences. A few of the games on the list include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, The Last of Us Part 2, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, though there are many other top-tier titles to explore. As a bonus, you can even elevate your LGBTQ+ gameplay by listening to the PlayStation Pride Playlist on Spotify, which consists of over two hours of anthems and songs by trending LGBTQ+ artists.
Although the special incentives in celebration of Pride were a big part of Sony’s blog post, it also made space to commit to being a positive force for inclusion and diversity and making active efforts to support the LGBTQ+ community at Sony and around the world. Sony shared that in addition to receiving a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, it advocates for equal rights in the US and UK and partners with a variety of organizations like GLAAD and The Trevor Project that work to promote positive change for the LGBTQ+ community. It acknowledged that although there is much more work to be done, it is proud of all it’s been able to accomplish so far.
