We’ve done plenty of articles on TheGamer regarding the Disney Princesses. There is every piece of fan art imaginable from depicting them as beauties to Pokémon trainers, even mothers. Something we haven’t done yet was showcasing them as valiant warriors. This is a man’s world, or that is to say we live in a society where it sure seems that way. Thankfully, that sort of patriarchal notion is going down in flames with women being more accepted into various jobs especially when it comes to video games. They’re even getting more games without subjecting them to typical drooling fantasies. Lara Croft has been retooled into a more modern woman without her bust being the reason for everyone liking her. That’s great for video games, but where does that leave the Disney princesses?

Well, their portrayal in movies has also gotten better over time. The first few big ones namely Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella all feature women that can’t really fend for themselves. They are typical damsels in distress. We don’t really see that any more. The movies are getting better, but to tie this back into video games and my point, there’s a real lack of innovation. If you go through the annals of history and look at Disney princess games they’re dumbed down. These twenty-five pieces of fan art inspire me to think of a world where maybe we can get these girls their own games. Plus these drawings are awesome and inspirational too!

25 Cold As Ice

Rossdraws on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Elsa, for all intents and purposes, is a witch. That is to say, she wields the great elemental power of ice. There were plenty of selections showcasing her with a variety of swords, guns, and other weapons, but let’s not forget she’s already a force to be reckoned with in Frozen. She doesn’t need tools when she has nature’s cold embrace at her back. That’s why I chose this one among all of the other more armed versions. That’s not to dismay some of the beauty in those pieces, but this fanart truly captures the magic held within Elsa. It’s dark, powerful, and gorgeous. I would gladly hand this in my office. What more could you want?

24 Red Thunder

Phill-Art on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. I’ve gone at length multiple times on why I think Brave is not that good of a movie. Condensing it down into a bite-sized word I would call it bland. That said I still think it’s amazing that Pixar was given the keys to the kingdom so that they could introduce their own princess into the Disney pantheon of greats.

This artwork is breathtaking.

Again, while there isn’t much to the movie, I think Merida is a great character and a great shot. That bow looks like it’s a lightsaber and her aiming down at her enemies while riding atop a bear is epic. I also like the rogue getup she’s in. Kind of looks like Robin Hood.

23 Into The Frying Pan

Petarsaur on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Out of all the Disney Princesses, Rapunzel would fit best within the world of Fallout. Think about it. That game is all about taking ordinary objects and turning them into weapons. What is Rapunzel’s weapon of choice in Tangled? That’s right, a frying pan. Plus her hair would fit in with the universe too. Maybe it got mutated so it can fly around independently of your controls sort of like a companion. It could actually work like Bayonetta’s hair since it empowers her spells. I think Rapunzel should find some shoes though. As this is a nuclear apocalypse there is plenty of rubble, sewage, and broken parts lying around. She wouldn’t last long without footwear that’s for sure.

22 Goddess Of The Blade

E-X-P-I-E on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. I stumbled upon this artwork by accident. Can you guess which Disney princess this is? It’s Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. I know right! I couldn’t tell at first until I read the artist’s description. It came to me randomly looking for some fan art for another piece when it caught my eye. Based on the design of her garment I actually thought it was supposed to be one of the many female Shinigami from Bleach.

Aurora is the Shinigami we deserve.

While I was wrong I think my hunch was kind of on the right track. I believe this piece, while not specifically said, is a tribute to Bleach, reimagining Aurora as a brutal Shinigami. Either that, or she’s supposed to be an awesome lady samurai.

21 Fists Of Fire

Geryes on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Hmm, is it weird to label Mulan as a martial arts master? While true it fits for her regional heritage, it is a little too on the nose don’t you think? No matter. I give it two thumbs up either way. This doodle is great and it’s one of many reimaginings of Disney princesses as Final Fantasy heroes. The thing I like most about Mulan’s job class, insensitive or not, is her outfit especially those dragon gauntlets. Get ready for a blazing fist of justice! Kind of grim considering they look like Mushu though. Did he pass and Mulan crafted them into weaponized fists Monster Hunter World style? I guess the more I dig the odder this artwork becomes.

20 Sugar Rush

Arbie-Creative on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Vanellope von Schweetz is kind of the forgotten Disney princess, but she completely is one without any sort of stretch to get there. Wreck-It Ralph is a Disney movie and Schweetz is literally a princess, which is a big reveal at the end of the film. So why isn’t there a lot of merchandise out there for her?

S-U-G-A-R, jump into your racing car!

While little girls could like her for being close to their age, I think a lot of kids like to fantasize about being an adult and not a kid they can relate to. Think about it. They play dress up and pretend to be parents all the time. Regardless Schweetz is a girl that can hold her own, especially with a candy cane scythe.

19 Guardian Of Heart

OverlordJC on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Aqua is not a princess. In fact, she’s a guardian of princesses. Well, sort of. She’s like an interplanetary peacekeeper and is the standout character from the Kingdom Hearts prequel, Birth by Sleep. Her tale is the most tragic too. She loses both friends to darkness and the game ends with her being trapped in an eternal void. While sad I applaud Square Enix for making a female the central role for once. Her legacy even carried on to a special interlude that ties into Kingdom Hearts III. It’s definitely a sure thing that she will play a big role in that. That’s all to say that Aqua is both beauty and brawn and this drawing proves it.

18 The Dark Gladiator

Skirtzzz on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Megara missed my last Disney fan art piece, but now she makes her triumphant debut with one fine piece of armor. First of all, yes, this is drawn similarly to the job designs in Final Fantasy X-2. And no this artist and the Final Fantasy Damsel Dossier one are not related. I just so happened to find two creators who loved reimagining the Disney princesses in Final Fantasy attire.

More so than the others this art actually fits better with the game it’s trying to emulate. Final Fantasy X-2 is a spinoff sequel to Final Fantasy X highlighting the adventures of Yuna, Rikku, and Paine. It’s basically Charlie’s Angels the RPG with a robust job system.

17 Terror Of The Deep

MeoMai on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. First of all, I like the clean design of this work. The brown background and the muted colors work wonders for it. Plus I love both the design of Ariel being a bit more modern looking and Flounder looking kind of demonic and maybe a bit dopey. Of all the weapons she could wield I would say a harpoon gun, or in this case, a crossbow, would work well for her. An obvious one, that I saw a lot of on DeviantArt, was her using a trident. With the lore of the film, sure, that would make sense for her to inherit it, but I like this piece’s more imaginative approach to Ariel being a warrior.

16 William Tell

Sadyna on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Bit of a back-story for me before I get into this doodle. I used to dislike ranged weapons that weren’t guns. Then more modern games like the Tomb Raider reboot form 2013, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Monster Hunter World all made me appreciate the bow more. That’s why I absolutely adore this one of Snow White.

Snow White has never looked better.

Her haircut and doll-like eyes accompanied by her seemingly bashful gaze work great here, but it’s her costume that really shines. She has the cape from her prince, a shorter design to make men go crazy, a bow, and a basket of apples. Are those like poisoned apple bombs? That would be an awesome tactic.

15 Fairy Tales

Furafura on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Now this artist has a bunch of drawings depicting all of the Disney princesses with the Keyblades they bestow upon the heroes in each game. While I would have included them all, because they rock, I wanted to give this list a bit more variety. I went with Tinker Bell because there actually wasn’t a lot of her remade as a warrior surprisingly. Maybe it’s because she’s not valued as a Disney princess, which is true she isn’t, but she is an iconic piece of Disney history and a mascot similar to Mickey Mouse. Anyway, that’s the Fairy Harp Keyblade, which first appeared in Kingdom Hearts as well as Chain of Memories as a battle card.

14 Tarzan And The Monster Hunters

Dreemers on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. I said it earlier about Mulan’s gauntlets, but if there were ever a lady ready for Monster Hunter World, it would be Jane. While this drawing isn’t necessarily showcasing animals she’s hunted similar to that game, I still think Jane would fit in well with that universe.

Jane looks one with nature all right.

The one thing that is a bit off about this drawing is her spear. It’s not the length either. If you look at the way it’s drawn, it bends in an odd way as it goes around her back. I’m awful at art and I couldn’t do it better, but it’s something funny I thought was worth mentioning not out of disrespect either.

13 Beep Saber Master

JosephB222 on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Speaking of weapons looking a bit off, I’m curious what’s up with Kim Possible’s green lightsaber here. Is she swishing it so fast that the light makes it look fatter, or is this a new type of sword that has a fatter blade like a cleaver? Could it be a cleaver lightsaber? Now that’s something I’d love to see in the new movies. Personally, I think Kim would work out better as a Han Solo type personally since she is a spy. Who’s to say spies can’t have cleaver lightsabers in the future though? The force is awakening in everyone in that new trilogy. Just you wait. You’re going to see all manors of random people wielding these mystical blades.

12 Gypsy Magic

Skirtzzz on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. This doodle is great, but I think Esmeralda would work better as either a Dancer, or Thief class if we were talking about Final Fantasy. She’s kind of both in The Hunchback of Notre Dame film already. She must be using cross-class equipment values.

She needs to keep that hat strong.

Nerdy details aside, yes, this is a good reimagining of her. Maybe she’s even using a third type of cross-class here. She can dance, steal items, and cast spells all in the blink of an eye. Not my first pick for a Disney princess mage, as I already sang the praises of Elsa’s ice magic from Frozen, but it’s a good picture.

11 A Thorny Master

Geryes on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Here’s another Final Fantasy reimagining this time for Belle and Beast. In my last Disney princess piece, I found a rather salacious image of Belle in a skintight suit with a whip in one hand and Beast in the other. I made a joke about her being the ultimate tamer of beasts and now I found this. It’s like I willed this into existence. Beast Master is the perfect Final Fantasy class for Belle. The one thing this fan art is missing is her whip and yellow leather jumpsuit. Now that was hot. I guess this is more dignified for Belle so it all works out. She is a nerd for books after all and a throbbing one at that.

10 Sally Scissors

MeoMai on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Here’s another great drawing from MeoMai with the same style and background as Ariel’s picture. This one needs some explaining. Those two blades may just look cool, but they’re not original for this drawing.

Ladies, don’t use scissors like this one.

They’re from the anime, Kill la Kill, which is about a girl trying to avenge her father’s demise with these swords shaped like scissors. Sally is a stitched together girl in A Nightmare Before Christmas so a scissor for a weapon matches perfectly with her aesthetic. She may want to trim that hair for battle though. It could get in the way, but then again it does look cool like a cape blowing in the breeze.

9 Keys To The Kingdom

Furafura on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. The Keyblade Cinderella is wielding is called the Stroke of Midnight, awesome name, which first appeared in Birth by Sleep and later on in Unchained X. There’s a lot of small details I love about this one. First of all her glass slippers are now amazing glass boots, which are probably better to fight in. Then there are the birds flying around her, calling back to her good nature. I also adore the clock at the bottom, signifying her powers being a timed thing. Oh yeah, and it looks like she has like a bridal cape and an armlet similar to one that all three heroes wear in Birth by Sleep. Overall this image is pretty rad.

8 Punk Shot

Dreemers on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. I already said that I could fill up a list with either Kingdom Hearts, or Final Fantasy reimaginings of the Disney princesses, but another category bursting at the seams online is Steampunk. Alice struck a cord best with me, as her getup looks more fitting to both her movie and a universe where this attire exists.

I can see Alice starring in a Borderlands spinoff.

Okay so, first of all, she already wears a short dress, that’s a given, and the top hat is a callback to the Mad Hatter. That’s all I can gather from the actual design since nobody wields a gun in Alice in Wonderland, but that said I think it fits in well with everything else.

7 A Lady And Her Tiger

Vick Vega on Daz3D made this piece of fan art. Can I get an Amiibo of this figure? I’d ask for a Disney Infinity statue, but sadly that series is now long gone. Ugh, still breaks my heart especially because it was the one game that actually made these Disney princesses, or heroines if you want to be picky, actually have some sort of battle skill. There is indeed a Jasmine one and while she doesn’t have Rajah to fight by her side, or dual blades, she does kick some serious hiney. Wishes for a beautiful figure like this aside, I think the double swords work well for her. If Jasmine was a class in an RPG I think a rogue, or ninja would work best. It would go along with her movie’s aesthetic too.

6 Captain Kairi

Jiugeon on DeviantArt made this piece of fan art. Come on. I couldn’t just have one Kingdom Hearts heroine in here. Aqua is actually a playable character, which I mentioned and is great, but despite being in the series since the beginning, Kairi has never had her own game, or segment where she is playable.

Her precious shines over us.

Not even in 358/2 Days, which had a ton of unlockable characters in multiplayer. She’s quite capable too as she knows how to wield a Keyblade. I think this drawing best represents her tenacity. It also looks like she’s waiting for Captain Morgan with that pose. A little drink never hurt an adventurer’s journey, right? Just look at Jack Sparrow, who I should mention, oddly appeared in the second game.
