Console gaming is a special thing; the feeling of having a new system is something no one can ever forget. For each system we get, there’s always new technology to explore with new mechanics that make our games more interesting. Some are mobile, some you can only play at home, but we love them either way. There’s something about console gaming that you simply can’t get with a PC, including the fact that they don’t require nearly as much maintenance as computers do. Besides, for those who don’t really have the skills, it’s way easier to snag a new console than it might be to build your own super computer right?
Regardless of what side you fall on, we’re all still on the same side; the gaming side! We all love video games no matter what we chose to play them on and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. However, that doesn’t mean that we’re not going to have a ton of wonderful memes about the consoles we play on and the variety we get because of it. If you love memes and you’re a console gamer, look no further, because we’ve compiled a list of console memes that will have you losing hearts from laughing too hard!
25 We’ll Have Fun Either Way!
PC gamers really like to bug console games by saying that their consoles aren’t nearly as great. Primarily, this is for a number of reasons such as graphics or whether or not we’re really more cost-effective gamers. In reality, we’re not even worried about that. What console gamers really want is to just have fun with their favorite games and their favorite ways of playing them. Want to really make a PC gamer mad? Don’t fight back. It’ll drive them nuts to know that you don’t care about any of the stuff they seem to.
Just do you and you’ll be just fine!
There are some really nice perks to playing on a console. Primarily, you don’t have to worry about how expensive some of the parts are when creating your own PC. A lot of times, people who play on PC feel that it’s a cheaper route to go in the long run, but that might not be so easy for those who aren’t as tech savvy. What’s the point of buying all those pieces if you don’t know how to put them together? If you’d rather just have a built system and move on with your day, a console may just be your best friend.
24 They Can Fight Back Though
That being said, those PC gamers do have some sick burns. A lot of times, the pros to having a PC is that you can play a lot of games on them without the need to buy a whole new console. For those who play primarily console games, this might seem a bit sacrilegious to you, but it’s a viable way for some people to get their gaming kicks. With how fast the gaming community is developing, it’s no surprise that we see new versions of consoles and remastered games coming out every few years. That gap is closing, so for some the PC option is a little better.
But, you still have to put everything together and, if most of your friends are already console gamers, it might be better for you to simply go with your usual console market. At the end of the day, this comes down to personal preference and what works best for your wallet. There’s no right way to be a gamer, so whether or not you’re a PC or console gamer, you’re still a part of our family! Just remember to have fun playing the games you love and you’ll know that you’re in the right community.
23 Some Of Us Just Want To Be Friends
A lot of us with that PC and console gamers would just get along. What you play a game on doesn’t necessarily make you a better gamer, even if it means you might experience a game differently. It looks like the maker of this meme thinks we’ll never see the end of this long, drawn out war but that doesn’t mean that we can lose hope! Many of the games we play are all about learning how to work together and work towards that happy ending. Most… Right?
Can’t we just… get along?
Either way, we can all learn a lesson about getting along. Besides, there are many gamers who prefer to play both PC and console systems so that they can get a variety in their gaming diet. Think of it this way, a lot of us grew up with console gaming systems. Those original systems have evolved over time, but a lot of us still feel that nostalgia every time we play one. However, there are plenty of games that aren’t offered on a PC platform. It only makes sense that some of us would want both, at least to some degree. So for those of you who play both, we feel your pain. We just wish everyone could get along or at least respect each other!
22 For Those Of You Who Do Get Along Though…
And for those of you who do get along, we salute you! It looks like, from how hostile a lot of people are, it takes a lot of guts to get along with people who differ from you. But isn’t that the beauty of gaming in general? We get to be whoever we want and do whatever we want in the world of video games. It’s a way to escape and it’s all about how much fun we’re having. If we get to make a few friends along the way, it just means we’ve won some bonus points, right?
A lot of people don’t get how video games can affect a person’s life. Some might think that because it’s not a real-life experience, it shouldn’t count. But that’s not necessarily true. For a lot of us, the guilds we’ve been a part of, the regular match mates we’ve encountered or even the fun random people we’ve just so happen to have met along the way have been a part of our virtual lives. For some of us, these friendships can last a life time. If you play both console and PC, you probably have even more friends because you’re flexible. The more the merrier we say!
21 The Real War
While everyone is bickering over whether or not PC or console gaming is better, we should all really be focusing our attention on the real issue here. There are a lot of different consoles out there to play on and this meme is only giving us a few. Which side will you pick? That being said, the only one we really disagree on is the Apple kingdom. Seriously? Why would you be playing on a Mac? That’s an evil all of us gamers should be able to side on and fight against.
Of course, the other three are really difficult to choose who’d be a champion. At the end of the day it really comes down to what game we’re playing and how well the console can preform with it. We’re surprised that this isn’t the bigger war because there are many more sides to join. Hey, at least you have options when it comes to this right? But maybe the beauty here is that all of these gamers joined forces in hopes of taking down the PC culture that seems to be on the rise. If that’s true, we’re not sure if we’re mortified by their sheer strength and hatred, or if we’re in awe at how their willingness to get together to achieve a common goal.
20 The Same Game
We’ve all met people who seem to be fighting about a game almost constantly. And really, it does tend to sour the mood if we’re being honest. We should all be able to just join the game and be happy with the content and play. Of course, this isn’t aimed at those who are disappointed when they find out that their friend can’t join a game with them because they play on different consoles. That’s always a real bummer, so please feel free to complain on our behalf; that’s a wound that may never heal.
That being said, if you’re arguing over a game despite the only difference being that you play on different consoles, you could be spending that same time and energy into actually playing and moving ahead in that very game. It’s always fun to get into a bit of banter with people who are into the same stuff as you, but don’t let it take away from your good time. This meme was definitely made by people who don’t see the point in fighting over the same game and different consoles or, more likely, people who don’t really play video games all that often.
19 Please Don’t Blame These Things
Every gamer is completely aware of the stereotypical angry gamer that yells at almost everything. Trust us, they are not fun people to be around. You’ve probably met them in an aggravating match online or maybe even in your local gaming store, if you’re particularly unfortunate.
It’s almost always never their fault, according to them, and it always has to do with someone else.
There are several ways to tell if you might actually be this gamer. One, do you often find that the game is rigged or that you can’t beat it due to forces beyond your control? There’s a slight possibility you’re exactly who this meme is talking about. Or, perhaps, do you find that people seem to avoid you when you hop on one of your consoles? Does it seem like maybe they’re afraid? You might just be this gamer. If you have found that you are, indeed, one of these people, please take a nap and maybe eat a Snickers. You’re not you when you’re hungry and we’d all love to see a happier gamer online. Don’t be this guy, as there are innocents like your partner, child and pets to consider who are getting caught in the crossfire.
18 According To Mom
Mom always said that she knew best, but she definitely didn’t know a thing about the consoles we used to play as a kid. There are some cool moms out there who can list the different consoles they got their kids for the holidays, or heck maybe even for themselves, but more than likely we all had a mom like this. She meant well, but at the end of the day. it was all “the Nintendo”. Have no fear though, because there’s always one way to solve this.
If you’ve ever tried getting your mother into gaming, it is honestly one of the most innocent things ever. Some moms might not be into it no matter what you do, but you’ll be surprised if you put her behind the controller and give her free reign. You might be blindsided by how video games can quickly become a part of family bonding; sure, it’s a little weird, but then at least she’d know the name of the system she’s playing on. If she gets the name of the game right after a few tries, take that woman to dinner because she deserves it. For all the awesome gamer moms, and even the ones who are not, we hope you’re having a good day with your definitely indoor kids!
17 How They See It
Of course, there will always be those parents who just don’t get video games in general. This meme really paints a picture because some of us have wondered how our parents couldn’t seem to figure out how to use a controller. Really, it’s a lot like the TV remote only it has way less buttons, smooth joy sticks and a comfortable, wide shape that lets us hold it a little easier. Who wouldn’t find these things more enjoyable to use?
It really can’t be that difficult, can it?
Apparently, parents tend to think this thing is a miniature space ship because it seems to be hard to get them to engage with it. Some parents might be experts with them; heck, some of you might have had a parent get you into gaming in the first place. However, there are a lot of parents out there that just find this to be a little too complicated or maybe just not their thing in general. They’ll know every button on the remote or what happened in all 50 episodes of their favorite show by heart, but this small gaming controller has defeated them. But hey, at least you get to look like the super smart kid of your family. May as well reap in those bragging rights now before it’s too late.
16 New Console!
Have you ever wondered what goes on in these kinds of meetings? So have we and, honestly, we might just be on that last guy’s side. It feels like these days we’re always seeing new versions of old consoles that are just getting remastered to fit the modern times. However, with the kind of technology we have out there now, it’s really surprising to see that no one’s taking advantage of all the new, crazy things they could do. Without a doubt, it would at least be a new, creative approach to an old subject.
We now have things like VR and AR with only a few systems that are really utilizing it. It’s almost a crime that we’re not seeing more creative stuff! That being said, we’re still in the sort-of early stages for a lot of this technology, so it’s possible that there’s stuff going on behind the scenes that will come out in the next couple of years. Hopefully, the future is bright for us video game nerds. It would certainly be cool to see where video games will be going in both the near and far future and what those systems will look like. If you’re a console gamer, you have to be drooling over the possibilities!
15 Google It
Remember the days when we had to really think about the game we were playing? If you were stuck on a part, you’d be there for hours, maybe even days, trying to get through it. Despite what people say about video games rotting your brain, a lot games really make you think. Now that we live in a digital age, or more specifically a Google age, we no longer need to spend all that time thinking. If you’re stuck on a particularly tricky part, you can be assured that there’s probably a tutorial on how to get over it. In fact, you might even be able to find a cheat to just avoid the obstacle all together.
We Google pretty much any problem we have, even if it’s not a video game issue.
Though we get where this meme is coming from, there’s also a lot of really cool things that come with search engines like Google. For example, a lot of gaming sites can tell you some secrets that you might have never been able to find elsewhere. Sure, it’s special when you find that stuff out on your own, but it’s also pretty cool when gamers get to share that kind of information with each other. Sometimes, forums and other gaming help websites bring the video game community closer together by encouraging us to help each other out!
14 What We Really Think
We’ve all been there, especially if you’re a console gamer. Every time a new game comes out that requires a new console, you can pretty much guarantee that a lot of us won’t have the money. If you do, you’re super lucky and we’re jealous, but for a lot of us that isn’t the case. Consoles can be extremely exciting when they’ve been re-modeled to do new things or have specific features; that’s part of the joy of being a console gamer. However, those consoles do cost quite a bit of money and if you’re not financially prepared for that burden, you might find yourself waiting for a long time to get your hands on that new game.
It’s unfortunate that no one on the marketing team for consoles realizes that their usual audience is broke gamers. But that doesn’t mean that we won’t do other things in our meantime. After all, if you have a lot of the older models for certain consoles, there’s still a ton of classic games you can play while you wait for those prices to drop, or maybe even a holiday sale. On the other hand, if a game is ’exclusive’ to one console, there’s still a good chance that it’ll come out on other consoles in the near future. It just means you get to appreciate what you already have and that you also get to save what little money you need for food next month.
13 The Switch
Remember when one angry gamer asked if Microsoft would be changing their policies with the new Xbox One update? And the first part of this meme was the answer we got. Needless to say, it wasn’t a pretty lie to get caught in. For those of you who might not be aware of the situation, this meme is actually referring to a very particular situation involving “Major Nelson” and the Xbox one. What happened was, during the prelaunch of the Xbox One, there were said to be stricter DRM policies.
Seriously, did he think we wouldn’t find out?
A lot of gamers were not happy about this and the outrage was incredible. Nobody wanted these policies to happen, it seems. When Major Nelson was confronted about these new policy changes, he replied that the DRM wasn’t a switch that they could just flip and change around. He stated that the DRM was what the console was built around and there was pretty much nothing Microsoft could do about this with the Xbox One. Clearly this was not true because, shortly after, the policies were taken down and Major Nelson was called out on his big fat lie. This meme was clearly made by a salty gamer who wants us to remember that betrayal, and we sure do.
12 Loading Screen
This meme will forever be how we feel about literally anything because our minds are always blown when we read one of them. Have you ever considered that maybe we’re just waiting to load in the next part of our day? That’s honestly a crazy, but certainly viable, way to think about sleeping. Hey, as long as you’re actually sleeping instead of gaming all night, right? Well, we’re not too hopeful on that one since we’re no better; we’ve all pulled those all-nighters just to beat a game or maybe farm for a super rare item.
The only thought that can rival this one is the idea that we’re all in a really bad game of The Sims. As addicting as that game is to play when you don’t want to face your real life, it’s always a bit of a mind blowing revelation when you realize it’s just a simulation of everyday life. Have you ever considered that while playing this game? What even makes it appealing if we can actually do this stuff in the real world? If your answer to that is because you can create absurd situations that your Sims just have to deal with and live through, then you are probably a true gamer after all.
11 99 Problems
As silly as this meme might seem, we just had to include it on this list. Come on, a pun on a console name? There was no way we could build a meme list like this and not have one! But seriously, the Xbox consoles have always been particularly annoying with their names. Rather than how other consoles, like PlayStation, go in a chronological order with their names, Xbox always seems to be jumping around from one thing to the next. Not to mention these systems always seem to be just a little high maintenance.
Please just name your consoles in order of how they come out, you’re being too extra!
Besides, not all the Xbox games work for their other incarnations. This isn’t that big of a deal, mostly because they aren’t the only console that does this, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a lot of confused parents walking into a gaming store and asking what works for what; they might even buy the wrong game in the end anyway. Please Xbox, we’re begging you at this point, just have normal names for your consoles. We promise that we’ll still find you interesting, you don’t have to really shake things up for us to notice you; you’re one of the most well-known consoles out there and trust us, it isn’t because you call yourself number one.
10 What Is This… Outside You Speak Of?
Have your parents ever been cruel enough to take away your console so that you’d have to be an actual, functioning human being in the world? If you’re a real gamer, you probably have experienced this pain at least once in your life. Hey, it’s not all that bad! There’s a lot of wonderful things the world has to offer. Just look at those graphics! There’s never been anything clearer! Well, unless you’ve been staring at your screen for so long that you’ve now strained your eyes. That certainly is a possibility.
We all love video games and it’s not uncommon to wish that we were in one. After all, it’s much easier to think of life as a game rather than a really harsh place, right? But video games are meant only for entertainment and a little bit of escapism. Make sure that you take frequent breaks and stay hydrated so that, at the very least, you’re being a healthy gamer that can take on the world when someone yanks your console right out of your TV stand. You can never go wrong with a short walk outside or at least opening your blinds just a little bit. Sunlight is good for your eyes and health, both physically and mentally. Also, please tell us that you know what a bird looks like.
9 Real Old School
We feel like maybe a much older gamer, or probably just your regular adult, made this meme because it’s a super mean joke. After all, new consoles pretty much cost an arm and a leg these days. If someone were to get rid of your brand new console and just give you the box it came in, would you not be freaking out? We sure would! Did our mom make this meme? Because this seems like something she would do.
It’s always interesting to see how older generations and younger generations engage with video games. After all, we have very different experiences with the entertainment of our times. For older generations, it’s probably giving us an old brown box and pretending it was a space ship. But for those of us who have maybe played a couple different consoles growing up, we know every glitch and crack in the coding for what we grew up with. It will be interesting to see what this younger generation will be able to do when they grow up and how they’ll react to the video game consoles of the future.
8 Please No
Yet another Keanu Reeves meme; but can you blame us? They’re so good sometimes! Honestly though, this is not the meme we want to ever come true. We’re just fine with new games coming out every year because our wallets probably couldn’t afford it the other way around. Sure, video game technology is advancing relatively fast, but not that fast, right? If there was a new console every year, we’d be in some serious debt. New games at least mean there’s something interesting new and interesting to play throughout the year. What would we even do with that many consoles? How on earth would we even store all of them?
That’s perhaps the biggest downside of being a console gamer. If you’re really serious about buying all brands and staying on top of literally every game, you’re probably running out of space. Especially if you only have one room to yourself, there’s almost nowhere to store all your treasures. Some people make up for this by playing through all their games and making the most of their time with their consoles and then selling them. But if your heart hurts at that last sentence, then you’ve probably never even considered giving up one of your babies. You’re a good console parent.
7 Play A Game On Your Time Off
We all have that one judgey relative, family friend or even coworker that’s always asking why we like to play video games so much. It can be one of those questions that just ruins your day. Why do you have to justify liking something that you spend your time doing? Besides, the person asking probably hasn’t ever experienced the joy of video games or maybe hasn’t played one since they were a kid. They just don’t seem to get it. That being said, if this person is also a big TV addict, they really don’t have the right to judge.
Don’t let these kinds of people grind your gears.
Of course, gamers get the appeal of watching television, as there’s a lot of great shows out there that have wonderful storylines or great acting in it, so why wouldn’t we be entertained? But if you’re a gamer that likes to unwind while playing something, it’s probably because you want to still do something while you relax. And that’s completely okay! It can just grind our gears when someone’s clearly being judgmental about how we choose to spend our free time when theirs isn’t exactly the best way either. Just respond with, “Why don’t you go play football instead of watching it? Wouldn’t that be way more fun?”
6 Why It’s Called A Console
Maybe this is why it’s called a console! After all, there’s nothing better than coming home from a particularly rough day and playing a great game on one of your favorite consoles. Especially if that day really seemed to rub you the wrong way. Video games can sometimes be a great way to blow off steam when things have been getting too heated in the real world. At the least you can slay some zombies or maybe even defeat a real bad guy, right? It’s not always that easy in the real world.
Gamers love video games for the simple fact that we get to be whoever we want, at least for a little while as we play the game. You might be a hero on their way to save a monarch in distress or even a monster hunter who takes down the biggest beasts you’ve ever seen. There’s always this feeling that you get to do almost anything in these new worlds. So it only makes sense that these can make you feel a little better when you play them after a harsh day in the real world where there’s a bit more rules to everything, right? At the very least, it never feels like there’s any judgement in the digital world.
