Skyrim has a very vast world for a video game; it holds so many secrets and fun experiences. It’s actually quite amazing how much they’ve been able to put into this game, simply from the fact that it’s been able to stay this popular for this long. While some people might believe that this game is dated, which it might be when you take a deeper look at the graphics, but all the members of the community keep this game alive with innovative mods and more ways to bring more people into the magical world of Skyrim.
But because of the large community and the world surrounding this entire game, not to mention the Elder Scrolls series as a whole, the community has had many theories about this particular game. The theories have ranged from the absurd to maybe even being possible. Which is what the purpose of this list is; we want to take the time to look at each one of these theories that once existed in the community and how they actually became quite an important moment within the game. Some might have been theories from years ago and some are a bit fresher as well, now that gamers are looking at each little detail trying to discover everything they can about this game (since they’ve already played it a million times).
Overall, the innovation that has been put into this game deserves a closer look. So let’s go ahead and dive right in so we can learn everything we can about this amazing game!
25 The Map Is The Reality
While it confused people quite a bit when the game first came out, it was actually confirmed by fans who dedicated a ton of time to find out that the map is actually in real time. The clouds are where they are in game and everything!
How innovative to have a real-time map right there in the game! We can’t wait to see what they do next.
This was very advanced for the time that this game came out, which makes us excited for the future.
24 The Letters Were From Claws
Why else would the language in the game be so distinct? It’s because they’re written with the claws of the dragons that are constantly soaring in the skies.
This makes complete sense now, it might be simple, but it wasn’t something that crossed everyone’s mind!
The dragon language is very complex and broken, but it is pretty cool to see that there is a connection between the dragons themselves and the writing that expresses their language. But it’s still a wonder why exactly they engraved these shouts on walls across the game world. We might not have all the answers, but at least one thing is a bit more clear than it was before.
23 Naming Their Kid This?
Can you believe that someone would actually name their kid after the main character in the game? They named their baby Dovahkiin, and because they named them this, Bethesda sent them all kinds of merch, which is pretty cool! But with nerd culture really taking a hold of the world around us, it should be interesting to see just how far this goes in the future. If you can name your kid after the main character of this Bethesda game, anything can happen!
22 Mario Is A Dragon?!
Did you know that Mario actually voiced many of the dragons in the game? While his voice doesn’t sound like the character we all know and love, it is interesting to see that he voiced Paarthurnax, the biggest and baddest dragon in the whole game. Charles Martinet is such a talented voice actor we can’t wait to see what he does with his voice next! Maybe they’ll even make a Mario Bros voice add-on for Paarthurnax! Please, we’re begging for this, Bethesda!
21 How They Created The Theme Song
There are 90 voices put together to create the theme song of the game. This song has become so memorable and it’s partly due to the attention of detail they’ve put into the game and the details of the actual song that just resonates in your chest whenever it comes on.
Talk about some impressive accomplishments!
This hearty masterpiece of work is memorable and unique! We want to hear it again and again. We wonder what would have happened if they did this for all of the music in the game.
20 A Thief Is A Thief
Let’s talk about more voice actors! Did you know that the voice actor Stephen Russell, the voice actor of Mercer Frey in Skyrim also does the voice for the thief in the Thief series? What a fun and very unique crossover we would have never expected. This should honestly make these two characters the ultimate thieves in all of the gaming community. He knows all the secrets and he gets all the loot! Let’s just be mindful of our pockets, okay?
19 The 300 Easter Egg
In many of the Bethesda games there are many nods to pop culture references, and in this case, there is a scenario where 300 is an easter egg in the game. There is a moment where you will see an NPC or even yourself being stalked by wolves and it’s an exact scene from the movie. While it might not be much, it’s fun to know where the ideas came from and how they came to be a part of the final game.
18 Game Of Thrones Was Almost Skyrim
Can you imagine if they actually went with the theory of making Skyrim a version of Game of Thrones? It would never be the same feeling the game had today.
Honestly, it’s probably best that they kept them separate, it would have seemed like a cop out!
We’re just thankful that the game as we know it has stayed the way it is without any other outside influences that would just make it seem like Bethesda sold out.
17 Special Game Books
There are special books in the game that are very rare but are actually a choose your own adventure type game within the main game. Many fans thought these books were fake when in reality you just had to look at bit harder than you might have. While we haven’t been able to find out in a long time, we’re going to keep looking until we do because they’re confirmed! Have you been able to find one in the game?
16 Can Take Their Heart
In the game, you can actually pickpocket people and even animals. But did you know that you can actually end someone’s life by taking their heart right out of their pocket? Of course it’s not graphic by any means, but it is quite strange and gross if you really think about it.
Even though we’ve put in some major hours into Skyrim, who would have thought this was possible, totally heartless!
Let’s just hope this could never happen in real life, please and thanks!
15 They’re Wyverns!
There’s a theory that the dragons in the game aren’t actual dragons. According to most mythology that you can research, dragons have four legs, two in the front and two in the back just like most mammals, but a wyvern only has two legs in the back and wings. The dragons in the game actually don’t have the four legs most mythologists associate dragons with, they only have the two. With that said, let’s just try to ignore the fact that they still refer to these creatures as dragons.
14 Ulfric Isn’t Ulfric
When he was a younger adult, he was actually going to turn out to be one of the Greybeards, but because of his strong will to learn and his training that took a decade, he realized that once the war started he needed to do something. But there are more theories that make him a bit more mischievous than he might seem. He might even be in line with the Thalmor which would be a dreadful reality if that was the case. Ulfric might be the bad guy to most, but there’s definitely more to the story.
13 Different Dimensions
Just like in many video games, there seems to be a different universe within the game, which is actually true in many ways because of Oblivion and the demons in that realm. But there might be more to it after all. There might even be a different world called Lyg which is the opposite of Nirn where the world of Skyrim takes place. Many have said that this different world known as Lyg would most likely be dark and evil in many ways because it’s the opposite.
12 Going To The Lecture Hall
Did you know that at the Rice University located in Texas you can actually use Skyrim to help you on your tests! There are many concepts to show that this as a tool actually helps the students learn about different customs and how this affects us in the world we live in today, especially when it comes to gaming culture.
You can actually study this? Count us in!
It might not be the norm in many schools, but it totally is cool!
11 Maybe Not Actually The Hero
Because of the story line in the game it’s been brought up that maybe the way the story unfolds, you’re just evil by default. Instead of doing the world a favor, are you actually just stopping the natural process of the world being destroyed? While many think the dragons are evil for destroying the world, maybe that’s actually just what’s natural and you as the main character are putting a stop to it, when that’s actually doing more harm than good.
10 What’s Up With The Sky?
The main magic source of the planet Skyrim aka Nirn, is actually the sun. There’s a ton or lore behind why the sun is actually just a hole in the sky that’s leaking out magic in this universe, but it is still very interesting that this would be something included in the game because it’s not brought up all that often, yet it seems to be something that has caught the attention of many people in the gaming community today.
9 Anything For A Potion
Did you know there’s actually a bit of a cheat for getting a ton of potions without even cheating at all?! If you go to The Silver Hand camp, which happens to be a hostile location so it doesn’t matter if you just go in there full force, they have a ton of Cure Disease potions that are usually a bit harder to find naturally in the game. It’s a must if you want to have back up and you won’t have to worry about running out of a bit of help.
8 There’s Actually A Scavenger Hunt
Speaking of potions, did you know there’s a scavenger hunt of sorts in Solitude? If you spend a ton of time getting to the roof of buildings and balconies you can find tons of healing potions all over the place.
We all know Skyrim has tons of secrets, but a scavenger hunt? That’s a new one!
If you plan on trying to find them all, because they are literally everywhere you look, hidden in plain sight. Are you prepared to be frustrated and searching for hours and hours?
7 The Main Challenger
There actually is a final boss (sort of), when you reach level 80 you’ll be approached by an NPC called the Ebony Warrior, he is one of the strongest characters in the game and he will ask you to fight him with all of your strength. He seems to almost be like a version of yourself, he even knows how to shout as well which can be quite the challenge, especially if you’ve been one-shotting things up until this point. Prepare to actually fight.
6 Weird Artifacts Might Mean More
After playing hours and hours of this game, you’ve probably found a few strange artifacts that you had no idea what to do with since they had no direction or even a quest associated with them. There are actually quite a few daedric connections to those at the College of Winterhold that you might not expect since they’re supposed to be a special school of magic. But maybe it’s something to be a bit more wary about when questing there now?
