Those looking for a suitable replacement for EA’s Tiger Woods PGA Tour series may have finally had their prayers answered. 2K Games has announced that it will be producing PGA Tour 2K21 with developer HB Studios, famous for its The Golf Club series. Today’s announcement is met with a small teaser trailer and the news that a full reveal will be happening on May 14, 2020.

While this sounds good on paper, there’s a lot to be skeptical of. 2K Games doesn’t have the best track record with sports titles and HB Studios’ last effort, The Golf Club 2019, was painfully average. There’s every possibility that this will end up being a dud.

Still, I’ll give the team the benefit of the doubt and hope that something good comes out of this. EA’s last attempt at a golf title, 2015’s Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, was so awful that it never even attempted to try again. HB Studios might not be producing classics, but it has been improving with each iteration.

With 2K now completely backing this, we could finally see a proper golf simulator on modern hardware. That would be a nice change of pace from the lack of Tiger Woods titles in our lives.
