Unless you’ve been hiding in a cave for the last year then you’ve probably heard of Fortnite, the 2017 online game from Epic Games, which has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Fornite started life as a cooperative shooter-survival game where players fight off hoards of zombie type creatures and build various structures to help defend themselves. This game mode, called Save The World, was successful but it was the introduction of the free to play Battle Royale mode which has been the stand out for the game.

Battle Royale sees players compete against each other in teams of various sizes to be the last man standing in a PvP battle. You’re dropped into the arena from a vehicle, known as the battle bus, before having to scavenge for weapons and building materials to use for your survival. This game mode is free to play with simple rules, which has made it incredibly accessible. Although there are paid upgrades available, including custom character skins, it is entirely possible to play and enjoy the game without these.

Fortnite has drawn in over 125 million players in less than a year, a huge achievement for the game. With such a massive fan base it’s unsurprising that there are a huge number of people paying tributes to it. Across the game modes, there are a wide range of characters and skins, and these have given rise to a mass of creative fan art.

Here are 30 of my favorite Fortnite fan art pictures.

30 Freedom Of Fall

The artist of this amazing fan art has given it the title Freedom Of Fall and it really does sum up the image. At the start of each match, characters jump from the battle bus and free fall down towards the island.

This digital painting really captures that moment the drop happens.

I love the background and the detail in the characters poses. It really sums up the free fall moment as I imagine it to be for the characters. A great way to capture the feeling that opens up the start of Battle Royale mode.

29 Headhunter Is Home

This striking image is of Headhunter, a playable soldier character who is part of the urban assault subclass.

As with most fan art, the artist has taken the character and adjusted the art style bringing a different feel to her character. This image has a great impact when you see it, especially against the patterned background.

The little touches, including the patches and the barbed wire, really help capture the end of the world vibe the game projects. Add in the level of detail and this is a fitting tribute to the feisty character.

28 The Visitor

The visitor is an outfit which was introduced in season 4 of Battle Royale. It was available to those who completed all 7 of the season’s blockbuster challenges. The face mask can be customized but this detailed watercolor drawing uses the cross-hair design.

I love the fact that this image is a hand-drawn watercolor painting, rather than a digital manipulation.

The unusual medium gives it a unique look and the background really brings the image to life. A stunning piece of fan art.

27 Durrr Burger Demolition Squad

This Durrr Burger backdrop provides an amazing background to this squad fan art. With a variety of characters and skins including Raptor, Rex, Shadow Ops, and The Reaper, this image is both incredibly detailed and well thought out.

I especially like the addition of the battle bus up in the sky along with characters coming into land. Including both recognizable skins and the well-loved burger joint, this fan art truly sums up many fan favorites from the game.

26 Playing The Game

I love this quirky image which features one of Fortnite’s default skins personified as a master over the game. He is seen driving the bus towards the planet, like a kid playing with cars.

Kudos for the idea that the entire Battle Royale mode is just someone playing a child’s game.

It is an amusing thought that the game mode is essentially just repeating the same action over and over and this image captures it perfectly.

A great piece of art and a quirky idea for re-imagining the how the game works.

25 Sparkle Specialist Shines

The sparkle specialist skin was available all the way back in season 2. This outfit is part of the Fortnite Fever set, based on a disco theme.

This skin is all about the bling and that has been illustrated perfectly here. The vibrant colors are punctuated by sparkling accents, highlighting the unique design you see in the game.

The multi-colored gradient background provides a nice backdrop to this striking and well-drawn image uniquely highlighted by multi-colored shadows.

24 Raptor Is Ready

This fan art of Raptor, the soldier with a raider subclass, is incredibly eye-catching. Raptor is a rare character in Save The World due to it requiring a level 100 collection book to unlock him. However, the Raptor skin appears frequently in Battle Royale, where this outfit can be purchased from the item shop.

As well as capturing the skin perfectly this colored pencil illustration also reflects the fun of the game as a whole; showing the battle bus, llama and other game quirks in the vibrant background.

23 The Drift Skin Is Drafted

The Drift skin is an evolving outfit which comes with season 5 of Battle Royale. The base skin is unlocked with the season 5 battle pass and extra additions are unlockable by gaining XP throughout the season.

This fan art shows the stage 2 and 3 outfits for the skin, available at 25k and 50k XP respectively.

The stage 3 mask is the most iconic part of this skin and this image showcases it well. The style fits nicely with the subject matter and the addition of the chests and other items is a perfect accompaniment.

22 Fortnite Squad Ready For Battle

The Cuddle Team Leader skin from the item shop is perfectly shown here alongside Raptor and Teknique skins.

I love how the 3 very different skins match together well in this fun style of art. The storm in the background is a nice touch, as is the background character. I assume he may be the 4th member of the squad but he looks slightly out of place and incredibly ominous.

Regardless of his intentions, this team looks ready to battle. A great snapshot of the Battle Royale mode.

21 Sun Strider Gets Some Sun

The sun strider skin is available as a reward for reaching tier 47 of Battle Pass in the current Battle Royale season. It is part of the rescue patrol set which also features other pool-based items.

The skin translates well to this anime-inspired art style.

It really works in taking the outfit from the game context and translating it into a real-world one. Overall a simple but beautiful piece of fan art and a great tribute to this current skin.

20 This Raven Skin Stands Out

Raven is a nevermore soldier hero in Save The World. There is also a skin based on his look in Battle Royale, purchasable from the item shop.

This pencil drawing really brings out the detail in the outfit. The striking eyes, an iconic feature of the Raven skin, also really stand out against the dark shadow in the hood. It creates a creepy but intriguing feel and perfectly captures the character.

The addition of a simple but complimentary background helps this raven look fly.

19 Jess And A.C Team Up

Jess is an outlander character, usually associated with Pathfinder and phase scout subclasses. A.C. is also an outlander but has the subclasses of shock specialist and striker.

Outlanders are specialists in finding things and this image is showing some friendly banter between teammates.

The characters are well drawn, and the comic is simple but funny. Both characters are easily recognizable, and the image is very relatable for those who have played on a team comprised of more than one character with the same goal.

18 Valor Stands Out

The Valor skin was a reward for reaching tier 71 of the battle pass in season 4 of Battle Royale. It is part of the valiant set and has a distinctly Valkyrie style feel to it.

This drawing captures the essence of the outfit. Despite only being of the head and shoulders, it really showcases the style of Valor. The striking green eyes also draw you in, meaning the image stands out really well.

Well executed and nicely accented by a simple but stunning background.

17 Streamers Fan Art

This fan art is of the Fornite characters used by MattShea And BestAtNothing. It’s a quirky image showing their skins and weapons in a simplified but eye-catching way.

This image is a great example of art as both tribute and promotion.

It showcases the characters while being a great tool to spread awareness of the Fortnite streams. The colors are vibrant and the drawing is clean and clear. Overall a great reflection of these unique characters.

16 Power Chord Gets Animated

This drawing gives a new take on the power chord skin, purchasable from the games item shop. It captures the essence of the outfits look and feel, translating it into a manga style image.

The anime style of this fan art fits perfectly with the power chord look. It means the image flows well and looks fantastic. A well-drawn and nice take on the skin this art stands out in a crowd and would make a great avatar.

15 Wukong Works

This stunning watercolor image is based on Wukong, the beserker soldier hero in Save The World. There is also a skin which was briefly available between February and March of 2018 from the item shop.

Both the skin and character are inspired by and named after the mythological deity Sun Wukong.

This traditional art style fits perfectly with the subject matter, giving the image a regal and important look. The gold accents bring out the detail of this well put together and incredibly well-drawn tribute to the mighty deity.

14 Brilliant Striker Anime Style

The brilliant striker skin is another Battle Royale outfit purchasable from the item shop, showcased here in a different style.

This hand drawn manga and anime style interpretation takes the edge off the look and translates it into something much softer.

The eyes really stand out on this image and I love the subtle starter weapon in the background putting the image into context. Use of shadows also gives this image a huge amount of depth and really makes it shine.

13 Ramirez Is Ready

A bold background helps give some punch to this hand-drawn image of Ramirez. Combined with the pose and her gear, you can see that she’s ready for action.

Ramirez is a soldier character who is also a rescue trooper and master grenadier. This artwork shows her looking every inch like she’s about to launch a rescue.

As with so much fan artwork, the details really help elevate this image and give us a vibe of who the character is. This one definitely has punch.

12 Fortnite Budz

This fan art shows the characters played by Vithoroil and Shanaroo. I love how they translated them into an anime style and added the chaos and confusion that often surrounds playing Fortnite.

One of them carries blueprints and a puzzled expression, while the other is holding onto a pumpkin for dear life.

This quirky image is eye capturing and humorous. The background is fitting but doesn’t overwhelm the image. A nice tribute to the in-game chaos.

11 Penny As A Sister Of Battle

Penny is a constructor character with both a tank and electro-pulse subclass. She is a great support character and this image transports her to the world of Warhammer 40k.

In the drawing, she is portrayed as one of Warhammer’s Adepta Sororitas or Sisters of Battle. The artist has taken the character traits and fit her into a 40k class which is perfect for her personality.

This stylish mashup is well drawn and well thought out. I love seeing this new side to Penny.
