Yesterday, we found out the 85th character to come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is none other than Tekken’s Kazuya. A fine choice and Tekken is certainly a franchise worthy of acknowledging with a Smash Bros. crossover, but you know who’d be really great in Smash Bros.? Master Chief.
Brian Jarrard, 343 Industries community director, also thinks that Master Chief would be a great addition to the Smash Bros. roster. In fact, just before Kazuya got the nod yesterday, Jarrard expressed as much over on his Twitter account.
“As a longtime fan of both games, it would be amazing to have a Chief/Smash announcement today,” wrote Jarrard. “Nothing is happening that I’m aware of, but maybe momentum this week can open a door. If you agree, maybe we can politely express our excitement to @XboxP3 and @thetruebowser.”
Sadly, neither Xbox nor Nintendo of America president Bowser replied to the tweet, but there were plenty of eager Smash and Halo fans expressing their interest in Master Chief appearing as the game’s 86th character.
There’s still one character slot left on Smash Bros. Fighter Pass Volume 2, so there’s still a chance that Master Chief is on his way. Maybe with enough retweets, it’ll actually happen.
Even without Master Chief in Smash Bros., E3 still brought plenty of good Halo news. Halo Infinite finally has a holiday season 2021 release window for both a single-player campaign and a free-to-play multiplayer mode. You can check out the trailer for both and see the new Cortana in the Xbox presentation a few days ago.
Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode looks particularly impressive, and especially its paid and free battle passes. Battle passes never expire in Halo Infinite, so if you miss a season, you can go back to purchase past battle passes when you finish your current pass. This gets rid of the FOMO while also removing any need for a “buy out” option to get through your battle pass quicker.
