A few days ago, some rumors began circulating that the upcoming Halo Infinite would be launching with a battle royale option. One of the hottest sub-genres in gaming right now, it does make some sense considering titles like Fortnite and Apex Legends are raking in billions on microtransactions. Halo is ripe for a mode like that, but that likely isn’t going to be on the cards. At least, it won’t be according to Halo Infinite community director Brian Jarrard.

On Twitter yesterday, Jarrard tweeted out, “Nothing gets a post-holiday Monday going like fresh unfounded Halo Infinite rumors.” He then followed up that statement by acknowledging how 343 hasn’t been doing the best job with keeping its fans informed on developments for Infinite. Despite originally being planned to launch alongside the Xbox Series X, Microsoft and 343 have done very little to keep players up-to-date past the delay of the game into 2021.

It doesn’t help that Infinite will not be making an appearance at The Game Awards this year. Typically a showcase for all of the latest projects across the industry, the lack of presence from Microsoft’s flagship series is concerning. Couple that with the director stepping down and other various setbacks and it seems like Halo Infinite is in a bad spot.

For what it’s worth, I do think that Infinite will end up fine. Microsoft isn’t in any rush to shove the game out into the public and that says more than simply releasing it and making fake apologies after the fact. It’s a strange move to not also delay the Series X, but then maybe Microsoft knows something we don’t. Either way, Halo Infinite will not be launching with battle royale, no matter how much you may want it.
