Those that love retro FPS titles and want a convention dedicated solely to them will be happy to hear about Realms Deep 2020. A brand new digital event started by 3D Realms (known for Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Ion Fury), the company announced the convention this morning after teasing it for the past few days across social media. Running from September 3 to September 7, 2020, it will feature a number of announcements for upcoming titles and tons of guests from studios responsible for ’90s shooters.
So far, we know that Tim Willits (id Software, Saber Interactive), Cliff Bleszinski (Epic Games, Boss Key Studios), and John Romero (id Software, Romero Games) will be present in some capacity. Acclaimed voice actor Jon St. John, aka the voice of Duke Nukem, will also be in attendance and giving an interview that likely covers his rather storied career.
As for the lineup of developers, 3D Realms will obviously be showing off some new projects but you can look forward to announcements and trailers from New Blood Interactive (DUSK, Amid Evil), NightDive Studios (System Shock), and Running With Scissors (Postal). There’s a ton of other indie games, too.
Frederik Schreiber, vice president of 3D Realms, said in a statement, “Realms Deep 2020 gives us the chance to highlight what we’re working on while showcasing all the badass projects our friends are cooking up. It’s been a strange year, but we want to treat this as an awesome casual hangout with our fans and friends.”
To that end, you can expect updates on games like Paradox Vector, Nightmare Reaper, Prodeus, HROT, Hellscreen, and more. These games will be featured alongside a Realms Deep Sale on Steam that sees major discounts on everything shown off. If that wasn’t enough, 3D Realms will also be running a Child’s Play charity drive during the event to help those in need.
