The spread of COVID-19 has led to a lot of closed workplaces and people stuck at home without much to do. It could be several weeks until business gets back to normal, which is a pretty significant amount of time to sit around being bored stiff.

Thank goodness we have video games. Chances are that you and your friends are already spending your newly acquired free time gaming to your heart’s content. But perhaps the games you’re currently playing are growing stale and you’re looking for something to liven up your cooperative playtime. With that in mind, here are five games that we feel are perfect for some long term co-op adventures with your online gaming buddies.

Destiny 2

Nothing makes the days go by faster than playing a looting and shooting MMORPG. When it comes to massive multiplayer games there’s few better than Destiny 2. There are multiple planets to explore, a full story campaign to complete, along with additional side quests, timed events, and secrets to uncover. On top of that, there are some super tough boss raids that will probably take many hours or days to finish depending on how good you and your friends are at being badass space warriors.

As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also the Crucible if you get bored of PVE and want to team up to murder people over the internet. And the game is always throwing in new content, including DLC, new seasons, and a battle pass with rewards to work toward. Just load this baby up with your friends and watch the weeks fly by.

Apex Legends

Destiny 2 is great if you like shooting A.I. controlled aliens, but sometimes you just want to go on a murderous rampage and take out some scrubs online. When it comes to that, hanging out in a squad and becoming the champions of Apex Legends is an amazing co-op experience.

The game rewards teamwork and strategy, although you can just run away as Octane if you feel like gobbling up all the loot. It’s also constantly replayable as matches can play out very differently and there’s a variety of colorful, violent characters with different abilities to choose from. Add in a battle pass and multiple challenges to complete and you got yourself a major time killer.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

Now maybe you and your friend group are less into shooting people in the face and care more about an immersive RPG adventure. If that’s the case, then Divinity: Original Sin 2 might be right up your alley. It supports four-player online coop in a huge world populated with unique, occasionally weird characters.

You and your online companions can load this up, create characters, and set about trying to solve or cause problems in the land of Rivellon. There’s even a reason to go back into the game after you’ve beaten it as there’s multiple endings and story paths. This is the type of game that requires some commitment because there’s so much content to go through. Which makes it ideal for this exact situation.

GTA Online

Many gamers dream of starting their own crime empire but don’t get the chance due to a fear of being arrested or horribly murdered, or because they just don’t have the time. With GTA Online you can be the sadistic, car-stealing supervillain that you’ve always dreamed of becoming. And you can take your pals along for the ride.

A lot of gamers have to stay home from work right now and they might miss the feeling of earning cold hard cash. Earning your fortune in GTA Online can take a lot of time, but you might have a lot of that to burn so it all works out. You can become rich by grinding missions with your friends so you can all eventually earn enough to get fancy, high-end apartments. Then you can get set doing the heists so you make the real money. And if that doesn’t sound appealing, then you can all grab some rocket launchers and just go about blowing people up for the hell of it.

Minecraft

If everyone is holed up in their homes, why not take the opportunity to try to create something together? In Minecraft, you can hang out with your buddies while you begin to craft whatever you desire. Want to build a huge mansion with a lava fountain? Go nuts. Aiming to finally make some diamond armor? Now would be the time.

The best thing about Minecraft is that you can practically do anything you want thanks to the game’s extensive mod support. You and your mates can turn it into a huge RPG and start attacking skeletons or join forces to recreate the Taj Mahal. It’s something you can get utterly lost in to the point that you won’t realize that the sun just came up and you haven’t eaten all day.

Stay Safe And Play Some Video Games

These are just a few ideas for some fun cooperative experiences, but there are several other options. MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn or Warframe are tailor-made for people with too much time on their hands. If you want to gather more loot, there’s the entirely of the Borderlands games to get through or you could play the series it takes inspiration from, Diablo. And if you just want to play a story campaign together, there’s plenty of games from the Gears Of War, Halo, and Resident Evil franchises that allow for 2 to 4 players to experience an entire narrative together.

This is a rough time, but at least friends don’t need to be completely separated thanks to video games. Hopefully, some of these titles will keep you and your pals entertained as we all spent our time indoors.
