In lieu of E3 2020, Sony is hosting a virtual showcase this week to reveal their slate of upcoming games for the PS5. The presentation is expected to last one hour and will be the biggest showcase Sony will host before the PS5 launches later this year. While another Sony live stream is planned for August, this week’s livestream will likely be the E3 equivalent of a Sony press conference.

With that in mind, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the showcase based on leaks, rumors, and the publisher’s Sony is partnered with. There have not been any concrete leaks about the June 4 presentation specifically, we can make some pretty educated guesses. Here are five games we hope to see during Sony’s PS5 reveal this week.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War

Call of Duty has never been able to keep the lid on the leaks, and thanks to Eurogamer we already know that this year’s entry in the series will be Black Ops: Cold War. The new game has been teased in Call of Duty’s free-to-play battle royale Warzone this month with the addition of vaults and a Cold War-era spy plane. Many are expecting the full reveal for Cold War to come from Warzone itself, as it has already been confirmed that Warzone will continue to be packaged with each future version of Call of Duty.

If Cold War isn’t revealed it Warzone, it will almost certainly be revealed in Sony’s Showcase. Sony and Activision have had a promotional partnership for more than a decade which often brings additional perks and DLC for Call of Duty to the Playstation first. It seems like we’ll get a first look at Black Ops: Cold War sometime this week.

Star Wars Project Maverick

EA’s new studio Motive Montreal recently joined Twitter, sparking rumors about an upcoming reveal of their Star Wars game codenamed Project Maverick. The studio collaborated with DICE on Battlefront 2 before reportedly taking the reins on their own Star Wars project.

Venturebeat’s Jeff Grub, who has become a reliable source for leaks, seems to have hinted at an upcoming reveal in a tweet that references a Mel Gibson movie title (Maverick) getting revealed this week. Whether the game shows up in Sony’s showcase or not, we’ll almost certainly see the game for the first time this week.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2

We believe Horizon Zero Dawn 2 was confirmed late last month, and since then there have been a number of rumors circulating that suggest it could be a launch title for the PS5. We know Sony will reveal at least one first-party game for the launch of their new console, and Horizon Zero Dawn seems like a likely candidate.

Released in February 2017, a Horizon sequel would be nearing 4 years of development by the time the next console launches. Thats how long Horizon 1 was in development after the release of Guerilla’s last game, Killzone: Shadow Fall. The timing feels right for a sequel and it would be a slam dunk for Sony as a PS5 launch title.

Batman Arkham Court Of Owls

The next WB Games title to feature Gotham City has had a complicated history. It’s possible multiple titles have been started and canceled between Rocksteady and WB Montreal. We’ve heard of a Suicide Squad game a Justice League game, and even a Superman game in various stages of development. Most concretely, WB Montreal has tweeted teases for a new Arkham game that will feature the Court of Owls of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo seminal run on Batman.

WB Games was planning to host their very first E3 press conference this year to announce the next Batman game and reveal that Harry Potter RPG that leaked a few years back. We know they had planned to reveal the game in June, maybe Sony’s livestream will be the best place to show it.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Insomniac’s Spider-Man was Sony’s most recent major first-party success. Even though it’s only been a couple of years since the game released, there are rumors that the sequel is further along than you might expect.

The next Spider-Man game will supposedly follow the Venom storyline and introduce the symbiote and black suit. It is said to take place during the winter and both Peter and Miles will be playable characters. In one of the first tech demonstrations for the PS5’s hardware, Sony used Spider-Man gameplay to show of what the system would be capable of.

It’s likely that Spider-Man 2 won’t make it as a launch title. Rumors are that the game is planned for a 2021 release, but given how important the franchise has become for Sony (considering the upcoming Iron Man VR and Marvel’s Avengers) it seems likely that if Sony has something to show, they’ll want to show it during this week’s presentation.
