Call of Duty: Warzone is a fantastic addition to the Battle Royale genre that provides meaningful changes for the somewhat stale formula. Killstreaks, player loadouts, and vehicles make this a Battle Royale you don’t want to miss experiencing.

With a sandbox this large comes with a large learning curve. Experienced Call of Duty players and BR players alike will dominate newer players thanks to some simple mistakes. Whether you are hoarding too much money or aren’t completing contracts, this game can be unforgiving to newer Call of Duty or Battle Royale players. Here are five things only experts know about in Call of Duty: Warzone, as well as five mistakes you should avoid making.

10 Expert Tip: Applying Armor Plates

This is one of the smallest tips you will likely hear for Warzone, yet it is critical to know if you want to consistently win gunfights.

Applying armor vests on yourself takes time, requiring you to open your armor vest, insert the plating, then close the vest before you can resume firing your gun. Thing is, you can actually apply multiple armor plates in one animation before closing your vest, saving you precious seconds that can win you fights. Simply press your armor plate button after each plate gets added and you will not be interrupted by opening and closing your vest every time.

9 New Player Mistake: Replacing Armor Plates Too Soon

Armor in Warzone is critical to staying alive. Without it, you are as vulnerable as any typical Call of Duty soldier in a Search & Destroy game type.

There are instances where it is better to not apply armor, though. If an enemy begins to push you and there’s no time to armor up, find a good position and prepare to engage. Another thing to note is that, if a plate is damaged but not destroyed, adding a plate to your vest will replace it and not add another bar of armor. If you barely took any damage during an engagement, using a plate to heal is effectively a waste.

8 Expert Tip: Gulag Equipment

When you die in Warzone, you have one chance to gain a second life by killing an enemy in a one versus one gunfight.

If your opponent is camping or running away, the game will provide both of you with a piece of lethal and tactical equipment to help break the stalemate. When the gunfight isn’t going your way, you can use these grenades to swing the match in your favor and escape. If your friend is spectating your game, they can also call out where the enemy is and even damage them with rocks. The best part is these rocks can detonate equipment, meaning that your friend can blow up a claymore with their rock, winning you the Gulag matchup and letting you escape!

7 New Player Mistake: Not Grabbing Contracts

Money and guns are plentiful in Modern Warfare’s Warzone game type, but that doesn’t mean that small caches of money will keep your team alive.

Contracts exist to provide a large sum of cash for each player on your team. While it seems like a better idea to loot caches to get your money, these contracts also provide valuable rewards like killstreaks, powerful field upgrades, and the recon contracts even tell you where the next circle will be! Do not sleep on contract objectives.

6 Expert Tip: Share Resources

Most teams in Warzone that win the match coordinate together and share resources. This includes money, bullets, and even killstreaks.

Like most Battle Royale games, you have an inventory that manages your ammunition and money. You can drop ammunition and money for other members of your team, allowing you to purchase essential killstreaks like Loadout Drop Markers much sooner than other, less coordinated squads. If everyone in your team shares, everyone wins!

5 New Player Mistake: Hot Dropping

Hot dropping is a term that describes jumping straight out of the plane to where most of the players are going. This is great for experienced players or for getting practice, but it seriously hurts the learning process of Battle Royale games.

Killing enemies is fun and allows you to scavenge their gear, but jumping straight out of the plane into a dozen different squads is a nightmare for you and your teammates. Unless you are a crack shot or have an amazing team, slow and steady will win more games than hot dropping and killing everyone in sight. You can do this in Plunder to rack up cash quickly, but hot dropping is ill-advised in the classic Battle Royale game mode.

4 Expert Tip: Pop Then Cut Your Parachute

Have you ever wondered why some players get to a dropzone much faster than you? It’s because they are cutting their parachute earlier than everyone else.

And by earlier, we mean close to when you leave the plane for the first time. For some reason, your character gets a massive speed increase after cutting their parachute. As long as your weapon is out, you will move significantly faster than those moving at terminal velocity with no weapons out. To get somewhere quickly, pop your parachute well above the ground, then cut it to fly twice as fast as your opposition for a few seconds. You can repeat this as much as you want.

3 New Player Mistake: Not Moving Enough

While this applies to every popular Battle Royale title like Apex Legends and Fortnite, movement is key to success. If you are not constantly moving, you are more likely to die.

Warzone allows players to traverse the battlefield quickly both on foot and in vehicles. Helicopters and various cars allow your team to cross large sections of the map in a short timeframe. When in an engagement, don’t forget that you can double-tap sprint to enter double time, increasing your sprint speed dramatically for a short time. Once more, you can slide to get a few more meters out of a run before completely stopping. Use these to your advantage and you will survive much further than most.

2 Expert Tip: Buy Loadout Drop Markers

The biggest advantage you can give your team in Warzone is deploying a Loadout Drop for them. This allows your entire team to obtain custom loadouts they create before the game starts.

Currently, this is the only method of obtaining perks in Warzone, making these packages more important than normal. Custom guns are also fantastic, allowing you to bring thermal optic sniper rifles, modified assault rifles, or anything you can think of. Most pro players get these as soon as they can to dominate less-equipped squads with superior guns and perk advantages.

1 New Player Mistake: Hoarding Cash

Cash is abundant in Warzone and should be used as much as possible. Hoarding cash does nothing useful for your team in the standard Battle Royale mode.

The money you find can be spent at buy stations to purchase ammo, armor, and powerful killstreaks. Besides the Loadout Drop, killstreaks like Precision Airstrikes and UAVs are invaluable for the later portions of Warzone. If you have a large sum of money, divide it up between your team!

A great strategy, if you have an abundance of cash, is to have everyone purchase a UAV. If your entire squad calls in a UAV at once, it spawns an Advanced UAV that displays real-time information on every enemy’s whereabouts and where they are looking. This can almost guarantee victory in the last couple of circles in Warzone.
