Video Games are a great hobby and one of the reasons is because they cater to so many different ways of playing. Some players don’t want to be scared, others prefer not to have a serious and philosophical dilemma in their games. There are even those who dislike any violence in their games.

It is hard to think of games that do not feature some sort of violence, even if it’s just jumping on a monster’s head to kill it. Fortunately, those games do exist. We take a look at some of the best games around that contain no violence at all.

8 Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero is a rhythm game in which you hit buttons in time to specific patterns in order to make the guitar sounds in a concert. The game was an immediate success when it first came out, causing it to become a franchise with more than fifteen games.

The franchise is also known for its arcade machines and guitar controllers. It’s a fun, rhythm game with a single-player campaign and a very entertaining versus mode that sees guitarists face off against each other.

7 Just Dance

Just Dance is a rhythm game for those who want to mix real-life movement and video games. All titles in the franchise contain popular songs and display movements to be copied in time while the music plays. The console’s camera or controller captures your dance moves and then you get a score for how well the routine was performed.

This is the perfect game for those who want some fun and to get up off the sofa. It is one of the best console party games out there. There are many editions with different song collections, which makes choosing a title more about the music than about the newest release.

6 Tricky Towers

Tricky Towers is a fun new spin on an old game. In this case, the idea was to add 2D physics to Tetris and see what happens. This game has many different player modes, but they all revolve around balancing pieces and ensuring that things don’t fall apart.

The game has a single-player mode, but it reaches new levels of fun in Multiplayer. For example, you can try to see who builds a tower first or who drops the smallest number of pieces.

5 The Witness

The Witness is an addictive puzzle game that is played in first-person. The game’s setting is a mysterious, colorful island filled with puzzle panels. They contain odd symbols and colors that might take a while to make sense of. The Witness does not teach you how to play it, but the game reveals itself as you spend time on it.

For example, completing specific panels might cause cables to light up with power. Following those cables might show you what to do next while you figure out all about the island and enjoy the calm silence of the beautiful setting.

4 Gris

Gris has an arty approach to progression and visuals that look almost like a fairy tale. The idea was to provide a great, fun, and relaxing experience to players of all kinds and ages. It is a platform game that offers mystery, challenges, and unique aesthetics.

There are moments in the game that are equivalent to boss battles, but there is no violence even then. Gris is innovative when it comes to making you overcome challenges. Some big moments feel like a boss battle without ever making you attack anything.

3 Jump King

Most platformers will have some sort of combat system. Even the most innocent ones will see you jumping on their enemies’ heads to defeat them. Jump King, on the other hand, decided to remove the violence altogether. All that’s left is the platform part.

In Jump King, you are trying to reach a beautiful woman on the top of a castle. In order to get there, you’ll have to master Jump King’s ability to leap great heights and distances. Falling from great heights does not kill, but it does cause you to be much further from the top.

2 Fez

Fez is a very well-known indie game. It’s a 2D platformer that has nostalgic aesthetics and innovative elements. The game’s worlds are pixelated and played in 2D, but you can turn the world around as if it was 3D, reshaping it and providing new passages.

Since it’s a puzzle game, Fez does not feature any sort of combat. It is all about going from one place to the other and figuring out how to do so. Fez can be played at any pace since it does not punish you for falling or even closing it.

1 Journey

Video games are a form of art but some take the artistic side to a whole new level. Journey is one of those games. As suggested by its name, you will be traveling. You’ll control a character that can glide and slide on the sands while exploring ruins.

The game’s art direction is astonishing. There are a few platforming or puzzle challenges here and there, but Journey was not designed to be much of a challenge. It is a pleasant experience that everybody should try.
