One of Resident Evil’s greatest strengths is its strong cast of characters. Throughout the mainline entries there have been over ten playable characters, most of whom are iconic. Then there is the supporting cast who helps you out on the journey. The only unfortunate thing about having such a large ensemble is some of these faces being left in the dust.

Mainline entries only come once every few years, and it is impossible to juggle every character and keep tabs on them. Let’s pay respect to all those faces we have not seen in a while. Some of them are main characters who have been with the series since the early days, while others only showed up in one game. Given the wild directions the series goes in with each entry, any one of the following characters could come back at any moment.

8 Billy Coen From Resident Evil 0

Billy Coen is one of the playable protagonists from Resident Evil 0 along with Rebecca Chambers. While the latter recently showed up in the animated film Resident Evil: Vendetta, Billy has not been seen or head from since the ending of the prequel. He is most likely still a fugitive. Has he been on the run for the last twenty years or did he managed to run away to another country without extradition? We could see him potentially getting a pardon after the Raccoon City incident and Umbrella’s dissolution.

7 Carlos Oliveira

Even though Carlos Oliveira showed up recently in the Resident Evil 3 remake from 2020, the updated version of the PS1 game did nothing to shine a light on the character’s current whereabouts. He betrays his employer, Umbrella, so he had to go on the run. After the company completely goes under we imagine he is able to return home, but perhaps some remnants of the company are still out for his head. We could even see him working for the BSAA.

6 Ada Wong

Perhaps one of the most mysterious characters of the franchise, Ada Wong has shown up a lot throughout the series, but players know little about her. Ada Wong is not even her real name. She had a large role in Resident Evil 6 where events became confusing due to an evil doppelganger showing up.

This game was in 2012, however, and she has not been seen since then. She was meant to play a part in Resident Evil Village, and she shows up in the concept art, but the team ultimately could not find a convincing reason for her to have a role.

5 Jake Muller

Jake Muller was one of the playable characters from Resident Evil 6 and also Albert Wesker’s son. He is a mercenary working to pay for his mother’s medical treatment, but she unfortunately passes away. After the events of Resident Evil 6 he continues his mercenary work but it is implied he does so in a more virtuous capacity. Given the negative fan reception to Resident Evil 6, it seems unlikely the character will be brought back anytime soon.

4 Helena Harper

Helena Harper was Leon’s partner in Resident Evil 6 and was extorted by a criminal organization in order to enable the assassination of the president. Despite her role in this plot, she was eventually pardoned because she was ultimately blackmailed into cooperating.

It is doubtful she went back to being a secret service agent, however, so where did she go? Did Helena work for another organization or take a more offensive approach to attacking bioterrorism? Much like Jake Muller, it seems unlikely Capcom will bring her back in the future.

3 Sheva Alomar

Despite many Resident Evil games having two playable protagonists, Resident Evil 5 was the first mainline entry to actually utilize cooperative play. The second player took control of Sheva Alomar, a fellow BSAA agent working alongside Chris Redfield. Despite only first showing up in Resident Evil 5, she has the honor of shooting Wesker in the face with a rocket launcher. Sheva is the one who contacts Piers Nivans in the sixth game with concerns about Chris, but she is not playable. With the BSAA’s compromised image by the end of Resident Evil Village, perhaps she will show up in the future as a villain.

2 Steve Burnside

This one is a little weird, because Steve very well might be dead after the events of Code Veronica. He is infected with a virus and transmogrifies into a beast. However, Wesker mentions that he might still be alive and recovers his body. This could have been Wesker trying to hurt Claire Redfield, but perhaps there is some truth to this. Imagine seeing Steve coming back after more than twenty years away, somewhere between human and monster. It would definitely be an emotional moment for Claire.

1 Jill Valentine

Jill Valentine has been criminally underrepresented in the modern Resident Evil canon, especially considering she is one of the two playable protagonists of the debut entry. The last we see of her is in Resident Evil 5 where she is brainwashed by Wesker into almost killing Chris. Fortunately she is saved and survives the ordeal. While she is the star of the Resident Evil 3 remake, we want to see what she is up to during the events of Resident Evil 7 and Village. Does she still keep in touch with Chris?
