Indie beat-em-up 9 Monkeys of Shaolin will be heading to PC and consoles on October 16, 2020. Created by Russian developer Sobaka Studio, this will be the follow-up to the 2017 title Redeemer, which felt a little undercooked. There were some good ideas, but a lack of polish and execution hurt the overall package.
For this second go around, it looks like Sobaka has upped its game. Inspired by the likes of Chinese Martial Arts films, you’ll assume the role of Wei Cheng as he travels across the land to avenge the death of his family and friends. That’s certainly a Kung Fu plotline if I’ve ever seen one.
Set across 25 levels, you and a friend will be able to team up and take on some nefarious foes. The official description mentions SNES titles, so this is clearly going for an old-school vibe. Here’s hoping that Sobaka can nail it since I did think Redeemer was okay.
The game will be available digitally on PC and Linux via Steam and will be getting both a digital and physical release on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. There’s no exact pricing, but Redeemer currently goes for $14.99 on Steam. That’s likely what you can expect for this one.
