Nintendo’s new-found relationship is set to expand as photos of a Lego NES complete with old school TV set have found their way online.
Nintendo and Lego announced a landmark collaboration earlier this year that will see Mario jump into the world of the iconic building bricks. The sets are based around a Lego version of Mario that can interact with the buildable levels and landscapes he comes with, and the additional ones that will follow. Mario has an LCD screen that changes and makes iconic Super Mario sounds.
Jonathan Bennink, the design manager behind the unique Lego sets, hinted to Brothers Brick that this is just the beginning of the relationship between the two companies. Bennink suggested that other Nintendo franchises could be immortalized in Lego in the future. Give us Link, Kirby, Donkey Kong, and most important of all Lego Waluigi, and give them to us now.
In terms of what’s next from the Nintendo/Lego collab, that has taken a welcome and unexpected turn. Pictures of a NES made entirely out of Lego have made their way online thanks to numerous sources, including a teaser via Lego’s Twitter account. The set will include a controller, a cartridge, and even an old school TV sporting a moving scene from Super Mario Bros. That’s moving as in it moves, although some might find it emotional.
According to PromoBricks, the set will be made up of 2646 bricks, and cost somewhere in the region of $250. The TV set will include a crank that, when complete, can be used to make the on-screen Mario move from one side to the other. There will also be a flap on the console to allow the cartridge to be inserted. Plus, the Lego Super Mario from the core set can be attached to the top of the TV and makes sound effects.
2020 is a big year for Mario. It marks 35 years since the release of Super Mario Bros. and the Lego collab is just one of many ways in which Nintendo plans to celebrate that milestone. Paper Mario: The Origami King comes to Switch later this month, and will be followed by remasters of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.
