UPDATE: A Total War Saga: TROY is now available on the Epic Games Store. Hurry on over to download your free copy before the promotion ends on August 14!

It’s just been announced by Sega and Creative Assembly that A Total War Saga: TROY will be free for the first 24 hours of its release later this year.

The Total War series is a massive one, spanning fourteen main game installments and four spin-offs. It’s been a little over a year since the release of Total War: Three Kingdoms, and the next one - A Total War Saga: TROY - is due to release on August 13th this year.

TROY will apparently be an Epic Games Store exclusive title for a year when it does finally release. There’ll be a 24 hour window of opportunity for you to pick the game up for free from the Epic Games Store. And yes, you’ll get to keep the game forever.

According to the game’s developers Creative Assembly, TROY’s Epic Games Store exclusivity was a necessary route to take if they had wanted to implement the free-to-play feature:

Apparently, however, the game will reach Steam’s virtual store shelves once the year-long Epic Games deal expires.

“Making it available for free, for everyone to keep, during the first 24 hours – wouldn’t have been possible without this deal.”
