The final story achievement for Marvel’s Avengers reveals a major plot element, and partially confirms some fan’s expectations.

Spoiler alert for Marvel’s Avengers story content.

With the first PlayStation closed beta weekend coming to a close, fans are craving more content for Marvel’s Avengers. Those with access to a fraction of what the game has to offer have been left asking, “What’s next?”

The beta provided players with the opportunity to play through the events of A-Day – the game’s opening sequence that has been shown off at various gaming expos over the past year – as well as two early missions featuring Hulk and Kamala Khan who explore A.I.M. bases in search of useful intel. Once players pass this point, they gain access to Warzones (side missions, essentially) as well unlock Iron Man and Black Widow as playable characters.

The game’s developers, Crystal Dynamics, have made it well known that six playable characters will be available for the game’s full release: the four mentioned above plus Thor and Captain America. In last month’s Wartable, the developers announced that their first post-launch character would be Hawkeye, available later this year. However, rumors have been floating around the internet that someone else might make an appearance before Clint Barton.

With the game set to release in less than a month, the list of Xbox achievements for the game has been made available online – and the final entry on the list is incredibly interesting.

Final Spoiler Warning

The last achievement for the story-portion of the game is titled, “New Girl Makes Good,” and its description reads, “Defeat MODOK and the Kree.” The latter half of this achievement comes as a huge shock. Until now, players only knew of MODOK and A.I.M.’s involvement in the story. The addition of the Kree, a prominent alien race within the Marvel universe, is a major development and a huge plot twist.

For months, fans of Marvel’s Avengers have been piecing together hints that Captain Marvel might be a playable character. It makes sense from a business standpoint. Captain Marvel is very popular thanks to her movie last year, and is a very powerful character. She also have very strong ties to the Kree.

In the movie, Carol Danvers is taken by the alien race and brainwashed. The original Captain Marvel in the comics is a Kree man named Mar-Vell. If the Kree are involved in the game’s story and are planning on a full scale invasion of Earth, the Avengers are going to need Captain Marvel’s help.

We also know that Captain Marvel exists in the game’s universe. Kamala Khan’s outfit uses a modified Captain Marvel shirt, and her room is full of posters idolizing the hero. It is unknown what her fate was following the disbanding of the team, however. She isn’t involved in A-Day as far as we know, but then again neither is Hawkeye, and he is confirmed to be joining the roster.

Marvel’s Avengers will release on September 4, 2020. PlayStation owners will be able to participate in an open beta next weekend, with a closed beta for PC and Xbox players who have preordered the game.
