Little Devil Inside, a game that was successfully funded on Kickstarter back in 2015, has recently announced that it will be published on the Nintendo Switch. This is big news, considering that one of the game’s stretch goals was to be published on the now-defunct Wii U.
The game was pitched as an action-adventure RPG following a professor who investigates paranormal activities, with a gameplay focus on the everyday aspects of regular people living with the supernatural rather than killing monsters and demons. However, Little Devil Inside’s official website seems to tell a different story; there’s no mention of the supernatural or the main character being a professor.
Instead, the website depicts an ocean voyage and what appears to be deep-sea exploration. The site’s description of the game seems to indicate that its story is about survival game where players are challenged to explore the world and endure hostile conditions. This is quite different from what was described in Little Devil Inside’s Kickstarter, but is more in line with what its test build video demonstrates.
The video was released back in 2017, showcasing a compilation of gameplay clips. Although much of the compilation featured the player character running around various environments, gathering resources, and even fishing, there wasn’t much in the video to indicate paranormal activity. Since the video’s release, Little Devil Inside has been slowly publishing game screenshots on its Facebook page.
However, five years of relative silence have made many backers lose faith in the game, with a good number of Facebook commenters noting that they don’t expect the game to ever be published. Although the news that the game will be hosted on the Nintendo Switch rather than the Wii U (may it rest in peace) might encourage backers to be more optimistic about Little Devil Inside’s future, the developers’ lack of consistent updates has clearly taken its toll.
Little Devil Inside amassed $306,515 AUD by the end of its Kickstarter period. The game’s website states that once the game is released sometime in 2020, backers will have the choice of choosing which platform they want to play the game on: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Windows, or the Nintendo Switch.
