Monte Cook Games has announced the addition of a new sourcebook for the Cypher System series. We Are All Mad Here adds the realm of fairy tales as a setting to the Cypher System, and is currently scheduled for print release in September.

The Cypher System is a set of highly-adaptable rules that can be worked for multiple tabletop RPG genres, including fantasy, horror, modern, sci-fi, and superheroes. Current RPG settings by Monte Cook Games using the Cypher System include Numenera (futuristic science-fantasy) and The Strange (modern-day science-fantasy). We Are All Mad Here is the next supplement to the Cypher System, and is available now for pre-order priced at $49.99.

We Are All Mad Here is being written by acclaimed writer and RPG designer Shanna Germain (No Thank You, Evil!), who is also co-founder and the Creative Director for Monte Cook Games. The new hardcover sourcebook and PDF version are expected to clock in at 224 full-color pages, with cover art by Roberto Pitturru, who has drawn the cover art for the Cypher System Rulebook, The Stars Are Fire (Cypher System), and Book M (Invisible Sun). You can download a free 28-page PDF preview of the sourcebook from the Monte Cook Games online store.

The woods are real and dark and full of wolves in this sourcebook. With it, you’ll be able to bring fairy tale stories to life for your tabletop RPG group. Additionally, the sourcebook will allow you to use numerous fairy tell setting elements to create adventures beyond fairy tales, such as myths, legends, urban legends, fables, and folklore. The sourcebook won’t get into the specifics of fairy tale character creation or particular class rules, so you’ll need to refer to the Cypher System Rulebook for those.

The sourcebook preview PDF shows it’ll be divided into four parts. Part 1: Once Upon A Time covers how to prepare for, build, run, and play in a fairy tale setting campaign. Stats for fairy tale artifacts, equipment, and cyphers (of course) are listed, along with multiple NPCs and beasts of the real dark woods. Part 2: Adventures Three houses three ready-to-play adventures, two of which require almost no prep work.

Part Three: Lost in the Heartwood details the fairy tale setting the sourcebook takes place in, and specifically covers the strengths and weaknesses of our mental health issues and how we can positively explore and better understand them through fairy tales. And the final part covers indexes and fairy tale inspirations and resources for use in bolstering your adventures.
