Mipha’s overly enthusiastic little brother may have been nothing more than a taxi service in Breath of the Wild, but in Age of Calamity, he is able to show just how powerful he really is. Sidon is capable of tearing through Ganon’s army faster than you can say “hey, listen!” and usually while tanking the game’s frame rate at the same time.

Wielding not one, but two Ceremonial Tridents, Sidon’s speed, and power is unmatched by few in Age of Calamity, and paired with his unique action, he has some of the best field clearing attacks in the game while also being able to decimate bosses in seconds.

Playstyle

Sidon plays a lot like Mipha in general combat, using fast swings of his dual tridents to deal quick damage to small numbers of targets. While Mipha is more than capable of dealing with larger groups thanks to her geysers, she has much more agility than her little brother in traversing the battlefield. However, what Sidon lacks in agility he more than makes up for with sheer force and range, as several of his attacks have as much range as Revali and Teba’s arrows.

Strong Attack

When using Sidon’s strong attack, he will perform a fast cross attack in front of him which can be further improved by using his unique action, which will increase the size, range, and power of the attack quite substantially if timed correctly. This is also a good way to quickly take out small groups of weaker enemies, though it falls short compared to many of his other combo attacks. While sprinting, he will instead do a backflip that launches smaller enemies in front of him and sets him up to juggle enemies that aren’t immediately defeated.

Special Attack

Sidon’s special attack, unlike Mipha’s, is more focused on single targets than creating a massive AOE attack, as he creates a shark made entirely of water before slamming it down on whatever is unfortunate enough to be standing in front of him.

Despite its single-target nature, the attack also creates some splash damage that deals decent damage to any enemies around the target and is also useful for getting rid of the majority of a large group of enemies.

Basic Combo String

Sidon’s basic combo string, while fast, doesn’t have nearly as much forward momentum as Mipha’s, though he makes up for this by his swings having a lot more width and being able to hit groups of enemies much more efficiently. For the most part, the only reason to use Sidon’s basic combo string is when you are trying to go for a strong attack combo since they are by far his best option in every situation.

Strong Attack Combos

The Zora prince’s strong attack combos are the sole reason why he is so powerful, especially when combined with his unique action. For the most part, Sidon follows the same strong attack combos as most characters in the original Hyrule Warriors, with his first combo being a launcher, his second a single target guard breaker, and his third a wide hitting horde clearer. Both his fourth and fifth combos, however, are powerful AOE attacks that can stun bosses and deal considerable damage to their weak point gauges at the same time.

Weak Point Drainer

Sidon has several decent weak point draining options, most notably his second and fourth combo attacks when boosted by his unique action. However, if you have unlocked his fifth combo and can get the timing right to boost it with his unique action, it is capable of tearing through weak points in an instant while also stunning enemies with the final blow, allowing you to use the combo repeatedly should the weak point gauge disappear too soon. Even in higher-level missions where you need to face off against Malice bosses, Sidon’s fifth combo can turn difficult battles into child’s play.

Sheikah Runes

Sidon’s Sheikah Runes are a little odd, but mostly worth using both when prompted and in general combat. His Bomb rune is particularly strange, as you need to time your attacks with the apex of the bomb to ensure you’re actually hitting it into the enemy.

The Stasis rune can be dodged out of, but the timing for it can be tight and you may miss it on the first few attempts. His Cryonis and Magnesis are fairly standard, though are best used when prompted to ensure you are keeping the offensive pressure on larger enemies.

Defending

If you have unlocked all of Sidon’s combos, you should never have to defend or dodge unless you have no other choice, as he is designed to be used exclusively as an offensive force. That being said, he is able to dodge or block just as well as any other character, though you would potentially be wasting valuable damage in doing so since many of Sidon’s combos have the chance to stun enemies before they can attack.

Weapon Modifiers

The best weapon modifier for Sidon’s tridents is the Strong Attack increase since this is the main focus of his offensive power and greatly improves how much damage his fourth and fifth combos deal out. He can also benefit from Attack Speed and Attack Range increases, though these shouldn’t be the main focus as he is already plenty fast and has decent range without these seals.

Unique Action

Sidon’s unique action allows him to power up his combo attacks when prompted, with each prompt’s timing being different for each attack. For the most part, especially with his fifth combo, you can just button mash the ZR button if you are finding the timing difficult to hit and you will still trigger the additional damage. After the post-game upgrade is taken, he will be given a second prompt once the combo has finished that will add a protective barrier around him which prevents him from being stunned mid-combo one time, though he will still take damage from the attack.
