Okay, we realize that any price above $0.00 is infinitely more expensive than “free,” but Alan Wake is going to be 90% off on the Epic Games Store and GoG starting May 14, 2020. The game’s normally only $14.99, so that means you’ll be able to snag the horror gem for a cool $1.49.
The obscenely-low price comes on the day of the game’s 10th anniversary.
For those who missed it when it released ten years ago, Alan Wake stars the titular author, a totally-not-Stephen-King-knockoff who goes searching for his missing wife, only to start finding pages to a novel he doesn’t remember writing.
While in Stephen King’s case, the explanation for this was that he got completely blackout drunk and competed the entire novel for Cujo without realizing it, the explanation for Alan Wake’s book is a bit more sinister. The plot leands players through the discovery of a supernatural presence that threatens to escape into the world.
It might be an older game, and its focus on narrative does occasionally come at the expense of gameplay. But if you’re going to spend $1.50 on one game this year, then you could do a whole lot worse than Alan Wake.
