The terrifying Alatreon has arrived in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne with today’s update.
It’s been a long time coming, but Alatreon has finally arrived. Originally scheduled for a May release, Capcom was forced to push back Monster Hunter World’s Title 4 update several months due to COVID-19. Now that everyone’s working safely at home, Capcom is back on track with a new update schedule and a fresh batch of new content for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
Alatreon was originally from Monster Hunter 3, but now he’s in Iceborne as the biggest and baddest monster yet. A dragon that can change elements mid-fight, Alatreon will require hunters to bring armor that’s resistant to a number of elements including dragon, ice, and fire. Its Escaton Judgment radial shockwave attack is also extremely powerful and can send hunters flying unless they attack with the appropriate element during the charge-up animation.
Judging by the looks of it, hunters will likely need to team up into groups of three to bring at least three elemental weapons to take this beastie down. As usual, your reward for offing this dragon is new armor and weapons with unique set bonuses never before seen in Monster Hunter World.
To go after Alatreon, talk to the Third Fleet Master after finishing the Recon Assignment at the end of Iceborne’s main storyline. Remember to bring armor that’s resistant to fire, ice, and dragon elemental attacks, and stock up on healing items. This monster is going to be a tough fight.
Besides Alatreon, Monster Hunter’s title 4 update also brings new system features. Guiding Alchemy will allow hunters to make special tracks that draw out specific monsters in the Guiding Lands, essentially letting you select which monster you encounter. There’s also new paid DLC, including room customization options like new monster figures, music, and some “Lynian-inspired décor.”

Later in July will bring the Sizzling Spice Fest, a Samba-inspired event where everyone’s wearing some pretty amazing outfits and there’s a lot of spicy meat on the menu. There will of course be unique new armors and outfits for your Palico too.
