Xbox Game Pass is developing into the ideal game subscription service. It has secured deals for games to be released on the service on day one. Even at the release of the Xbox Series consoles, Game Pass already had games ready for owners of the new console to download and play. Today there are a total of 40 games on Game Pass that are optimized for the X/S Platforms.
Running at 120 frames-per-second in 4k HD makes the immersion of each optimized game strong. When playing in the first-person perspective, the immersion doesn’t get much stronger. The following games are all the FPS titles that are optimized for the X/S platform and, at the time of writing, they are all available on Game Pass.
12 Ark: Survival Evolved
Have you ever wanted to play in a world where you had to defend yourself against prehistoric threats and survive in a harsh landscape? Then Ark might be the game for you.
A collaboration between four studios, Ark places you in a survival scenario where dinosaurs are your biggest threat. Base build and craft your way to being a survivor in this prehistoric setting. The depth of the game’s mechanics runs pretty deep, giving you a nearly endless experience.
11 Dead By Daylight
Why watch a horror movie when you can be in a horror movie? Dead By Daylight is an online survival horror multiplayer where four survivors must escape a killer. The survivor’s perspectives are shown in the third person, while the killer is shown in the first person.
Survivors explore an area they must escape before the killer gets to them. The animations are gruesome and reminiscent of the classic slasher films. Dead By Daylight is the perfect game for any gore-horror fan.
10 Destiny 2: Beyond Light
This sci-fi shared-world RPG shooter is brought to you by the original creators of Halo. While Destiny 2 is a free-to-play game, the DLC’s Beyond Light, Shadowkeep, and Foresaken are all available on Game Pass. Destiny 2 takes place in our solar system centuries into the future.
You play as a Guardian, a divine entity that protects humanity. With patrols on planets, linear missions, and player-versus-player modes on top of constantly customizing and leveling your guardian, you will be in this immersive world and neutralizing extra-terrestrial threats for hours.
9 Grounded
Grounded is a part of Microsoft’s work-in-progress feature, Game Preview, and is available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. In Grounded you play one of four kids who in a science experiment gone wrong, are minimized to the size of a bug.
You have to use the resources around you to survive and defend yourself from the micro threats in the front yard. For a game that is a work-in-progress, there’s a lot of content to take advantage of.
8 Halo: The Masterchief Collection
Nothing is more nostalgic for Xbox players than to boot up the green spartan classics. Halo Masterchief Collection is a compendium of this sci-fi series’ campaigns and multiplayer modes.
With the X/S optimization, visuals and load times are better than ever before. Enjoy everything you love about Halo, optimized.
7 No Man’s Sky
Do you want to fly a spaceship, discover new planets and species, and fight galactic law-enforcing robots? If you answered yes to any of these, you’ll want to download No Man’s Sky on your X/S.
This online multiplayer game takes place across a vast galaxy. You can choose to play with friends or travel the universe all by your lonesome. There’s nothing like traveling planet to planet, and being able to discover them as your very own.
6 Second Extinction
Another first-person shooter that is in Game Preview on Game Pass, is Second Extinction. Mutated dinosaurs have taken over the planet, and you can team up with two other friends and use many weapons and abilities to take out these lab-grown dinosaurs.
There are several modes to explore with free roam, campaign, or matchmaking options. Whether playing solo or with friends, the game is quite dense with content.
5 Star Wars: Squadrons
Be a Rebel or Imperial pilot and live out your Star Wars fantasy with Star Wars: Squadrons. This entry is possibly the closest thing we will ever get to an immersive Star Wars flight simulator.
With a canonical story mode that preludes Star Wars Episode IV and a multiplayer mode, this will be the X/S Star Wars game to hold us over until they release Jedi: Fallen Order for the new platform later this year.
4 Super Hot: Mind Control Delete
Being too curious and a computer hacker don’t mix well. When you download a mysterious file, you see things. Violent things.
In a game where time only moves when you move, you can get pretty creative as a government-controlled super-agent doing their bidding. Fight your way through hoards of enemies as you use a time-stopping ability to your advantage.
3 Rainbow Six Siege: Deluxe Edition
Rainbow Six Siege is an online tactical team-based shooter. Rainbow Six originates from a 1998 Tom Clancy novel based on a counter-terrorism unit named Rainbow. You can play several different modes with operators who have unique abilities.
During every round, each team has an objective that they must complete in a certain amount of time. The game is challenging in the sense that you do not respawn until the end of the round, meaning the player’s death could jeopardize the team’s efforts.
2 Warhammer: Vermintide 2
Set in the world of the hit table-top war game, Warhammer Vermintide II is a first-person action game with some light RPG mechanics.
Choosing one of five heroes, cooperatively fight your way through hordes of enemies with various weapons. Collect loot and rewards at the end of each level to progress your character. Team up with friends, or venture into this dark fantasy alone.
1 We Happy Few
A title that could fit inside the Bioshock universe is We Happy Few. Set in a dystopic 1960s England, everyone is an upper, and anyone who is a downer is an outcast, a pariah.
The three playable characters each have different unique abilities. When the characters pull down the blindfold of their denial, they’re easily spotted and are a threat to the status quo. While the game is heavily focused on a strong narrative and storytelling, there is an immersive survival RPG underneath the dark plot.
