More and more news keeps dripping from GW studios, and recently they gave us an insight into some alternative color schemes for the new minis in Warhammer 40,000 Indomitus.
Games Workshop is set to release a new edition of their tabletop war game, Warhammer 40,000. So far they have unveiled a new logo (first in 22 years)l and the contents of the Indomitus launch box set. This features all-new sculpts for Space Marine and Necron armies. As usual, the Ultramarines are the de-facto Space Marine army of choice, which is a shame as the sneak preview trailer hinted at Sisters of Battle as a possible option?
The new color schemes highlight three of the different Space Marine chapters that exist in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. To give us the best comparison the painting team have demoed the same model in the three different liveries for Blood Angels, Iron Hands, and Deathwing - part of the Dark Angels legendary 1st Company. The paint jobs look amazing and it really does make us ask the question why have they used the Ultramarines again; there is so much more to the Space Marines.
It’s not just the Space Marines that saw alternative paint jobs. The Necrons also receive subtle styling for the different Dynasties. We see Tsarakura, Zathanor, and Sautekh. The differences are slight and may not be instantly obvious but the artists have used different tones to highlight and tint the metallic surfaces with a more saturated use on the weapons, chest emblem, and shoulder pads. These do look radically different despite the subtle use and it just goes to show the talent the GW paint team brings to make these worlds more immersive.
We are excited for the upcoming 9th edition of Warhammer 40,000 and especially the long over-due, overhaul of the Necrons. As the Launch Box will be a limited run, it will be interesting to see what happens after supplies dwindle. Will we see a new Starter Box and if so, who will feature? Our guess is still on the Necrons and Ultramarines, but it would make a refreshing change to see a different chapter hold the mantle for a while.
