The PS5 preorders have been a shambles, to say the least, with retailers seemingly taking orders at random times. This has created an environment where scalpers can charge £1500 for new PS5s, while dedicated fans are left waiting for restock emails. PS5 pre-orders are sold out everywhere online, and there could be a situation where fans have to scramble in stores to nab a system.

It’s not surprising to learn that systems might be delayed, as shipping so many items during a pandemic will be no easy feat. The Nintendo Switch saw similar delays, depending on the region and the retailer, and that was during far more normal times than 2020.

Sony has bungled the PS5s pre-order launch, to the point where Microsoft has promised that the Xbox Series S/X pre-orders will be far better organized. The fact that systems might not even be available on launch day is likely to cause concern, especially as many people haven’t been able to secure a preorder yet. The stress of trying to acquire a PS5 preorder, coupled with scalpers driving up prices, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales no longer being a launch exclusive on the system, could turn a lot of people off. It might be easier to wait a couple of months until the fervor dies down, before trying to buy a PS5.

The PS5 will be released on November 12th in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, and November 19th in the rest of the world.
