It’s been quite some time since we’ve last heard about Microids’ upcoming XIII remake. Originally scheduled for a release last fall, the game was pushed to an undisclosed date in 2020 to give the title further polish. While Microids still isn’t talking about the game, a random Amazing Spain listing may have revealed everything we need to know about its release date.
According to a listing for a physical “Limited Edition,” XIII is slated to release on November 10, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. PC and Mac versions are also in the works and will likely be releasing at the same time. This new collector’s package will come with a steelbook case, three art cards, and some in-game weapon skins.
I’m not sure I dig pre-order bonuses, but at least this is officially a thing now. XIII was a little ahead of its time back in 2003 and it really does deserve another shot at success. The graphical overhaul wasn’t necessary, but I appreciate Microids trying to emulate the graphic novel more.
The two things I’d like to see changed for this version are the enemy AI and the actual ending. The previous iteration ended on a cliffhanger that has gone unresolved for the past 17 years. Let’s not make the same mistake twice of assuming this will get a sequel.
