This is not the first attempt to bring Fallout to the screen, but it is the first to get this far. Fallout’s original creators, Interplay Studios, created Interplay Films to adapt several of their games into movies. A script treatment was written in a partnership with Dark Horse Entertainment, but ultimately it went nowhere. Bethesda has turned down numerous Fallout movie offers, and Todd Howard had said that “nothing has really clicked” in the past. Previously, fan-made mini-series Nuka Break is the closest thing Fallout had had to an official adaptation.
Time will tell whether Nolan and Joy do this iconic franchise and setting justice. They will not be the only voices involved with the project Kilter Films’ Athena Wickham and Bethesda Softworks’ Todd Howard and James Altman are involved with the project as well. There have been no announcements as to when the series will be released, but it is currently in production.
