AMD’s Vega 10 and 20 graphics cards have reached the end of the line according to multiple outlets.
Console gamers, you may skip this one as it has to do with the PC graphics market. PC gamers, however, should definitely be taking note as it could signal a shift in the high-end computer graphics market.
According to multiple sources, the AMD Vega 10 and 20 video cards have reached “end of life” status, which means AMD will cease production. According to Wccftech, that decision may have happened as early as June, with the effects only now being seen on the open market.
The same can be said for the Vega 10 cars, the Radeon Vega 56 and 64. Both were previously known for being AMD’s higher-end graphics cards before the arrival of the Radeon VII, but now they’re getting difficult to find at a reasonable price.
It seems like the decision to cease production is simply a matter of cold hard economics. Vega cards are very expensive to build giving AMD extremely thin profit margins. With the arrival of the Nvidia 2080 Super, the Radeon VII just couldn’t compete in the gaming market, so instead, AMD decided to pull the plug rather than sell the card at a loss.
Also, the Radeon 5700 XT can offer almost as much gaming performance as the Radeon XII and do it at almost half the cost.
AMD isn’t likely to stay on the sidelines for long, however. Expect a new Radeon card to release to take on Nvidia’s 2080 Super, such as a Radeon 5800 or 5900, in the near future.
