It’s about to get a little more scenic as players drive their way across the country in American Truck Simulator. The Idaho DLC is fast approaching, and on schedule for release this month. SCS Software has revealed that the team is experimenting with a new feature that will give players a glimpse into historical landmarks and scenic views while driving along and hauling their cargo.

In the announcement, community manager Alex wrote about how the “artists and map designers put a lot of effort into making our game world as beautiful as they can, but often, a location that they may have spent months of time creating will be driven through in a matter of seconds without the player having a chance to admire it.” Anyone who has played the game or its counterpart, Euro Truck Simulator 2, can attest to this, driving across an area that creeps up on you with little opportunity to stop and the sights because they are trying to focus on not the road.

The answer to this problem lies in a new feature that is all about stopping to smell the roses and give players a good look at everything that an area has to offer. As seen in the video below, players will approach these locations that resemble an objective or job hub, and then activate the cutscene by stopping and shutting off their engines.

Alex goes on to describe that some players will feature historical importance, while others might be economical, which makes sense considering the theme of truck driving for a living in this game. At the moment, “we still consider the new feature an experiment. If the reception is positive, we are thinking of expanding it further.”

While not set in stone, this feature could expand in the type of content that is featured. SCS is also considering creating a travel log, both to give players a full list of scenic spots they have already visited, and to replay the cutscene. For now, the sky is the limit regarding what this feature could turn into, and Alex invites players to share their thoughts on the new addition once the expansion is live.

Both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 are among the most successful games in the world, both in terms of their sales and critical reception. Readers can click here to add the upcoming expansion to their Wishlist on Steam.
