In an unprecedented turn of events, Amouranth has been suspended from Twitch for something that many, including us, believe wasn’t her fault. The controversial streamer has been known for occasionally pushing boundaries and breaking rules, often with little to no consequence. This time it appears the ban hammer has fallen on her channel for something she wasn’t responsible for, a glimpse of another user’s NSFW profile picture.

In the past, Amouranth has flirted with danger by violating some of Twitch’s rules. She’s had wardrobe malfunctions, streamed in public and lied about it, and even livestreamed IRL in a skimpy maid’s outfit. Many times her suspicious actions have gone unsanctioned, drawing ire from those who believe there is something unsavory going on to save her from bans. This time around she is facing some consequences, but no one can really blame her.

This suspension, which is likely to be for 24 hours, is ironically due to Amouranth scanning through Twitch ban appeals. She came across a profile picture of a penis, leading to her unlucky ban. Clips of the incident appear to have been swiftly removed by Amouranth herself – who quickly ended the stream and deleted the VOD.

There are suggestions that she was baited, as one viewer reportedly said “during a ban appeals segment, one of the viewer-appealers altered their Twitch profile picture to something inappropriate… and it was shown briefly on stream. After which the user changed it to something innocent. Stream was ended and VOD deleted.”

Baiting streamers is a common practice, sadly, and involves viewers pulling stunts that trick partners into showing NSFW content on stream. Inappropriate content is often hidden within clips, profile pictures, or in otherwise difficult-to-spot places. The practice is often followed by mass-reporting to make sure any violation, however small or innocent, is acted upon by Twitch staff.

With so many wardrobe malfunctions, flashes, and controversial incidents swept under the carpet, suspensions for situations like this always reek of unfairness. A streamer facing a sanction for someone else’s inappropriate content somehow feels unjust, especially when the bans are extreme – as was the case with Gabepeixe’s 3-day ban for showing someone else’s Pink Floyd poster.

Still, considering the context, rest assured that Amouranth will no doubt be back on Twitch and streaming again soon enough.
