Isabelle is one of the most loved and popular special characters in the Animal Crossing franchise. Since the beginning, she has helped the player manage their little town, although as of New Horizons she mainly focuses on the island rating as well as handling relations with the local villagers.

Along with Tom Nook, Isabelle has become a bit of an icon for the franchise. So much so, that she’s appeared in other games like Smash Bros. and even in some DOOM Eternal crossover fan art. Hardworking, sweet and incredibly intelligent after having graduated from nineteen different universities, she’s still a character that has her own inconsistencies.

10 Nothing To Announce Here

Every morning, Isabelle starts the day off for everyone by announcing any and all news for the island. However, most days there’s nothing to announce, at least by her standards. She’ll only provide an announcement if a significant event is going on or if a new villager moves in.

However, it would be nice if she said something about visitors like Redd, Wisp and Sahara being around. And yet, those don’t seem to be important details for her.

9 The Isabelle Of The Past

Although everyone loves Isabelle for who and what she is, she hasn’t been completely free from criticism. In the past games her character had a much more active role in the well-being of the town as well as its development.

However, these days she has taken a step back and simply provides news and other announcements while gathering feedback on the island’s rating. She definitely seems to do less than before.

8 Too Many Flowers

That highly-coveted 5-star island rating is something just about any player wants, but actually getting there is incredibly difficult. There are certain requirements that just need to be met, but they don’t all quite make sense.

Flowers, for instance, can be a dividing factor for many players. Some would rather not deal with the burden of gardening, which makes ranking up in stars difficult.

7 Isabelle The Bully

Everyone is always criticizing Tom Nook for being too occupied with development and the betterment of the island. However, the fact is that he’s actually much more understanding about the island’s state than Isabelle is.

After all, even if everything seems to look just fine for the player and the villagers, Isabelle will still only provide the player with a single star. It’s a harsh rating system!

6 Stealing Credit

After all the things the player does for the island, it’s no wonder people want a bit of recognition for their efforts. It’s not overnight that the player gathers bells for a new bridge or buys the right furniture to spice up their island.

And yet, some villagers still have the audacity to state that Isabelle is the mastermind behind it all. Truly, this game is a thankless game.

5 Important Announcement

Isabelle is definitely a master of words when it comes to her announcements. Although after a while players will be able to recognize her dialogues, sometimes she’ll actually manage to trick the player into believing she’s about to say something important.

However, what Isabelle considers important is usually an incredibly obvious fact or statement. As if the player didn’t know someone was moving away or moving in, or that it’s the beginning of a new month.

4 Stuff Makes The World Go Around

At first, getting those pesky star rankings isn’t actually that hard and planting a bunch of flowers will boost the ranking quite a bit initially. However, beyond that, once the player is teetering at the edge of 5 stars, things become a bit more… chaotic.

Isabelle’s requirements are so steep that sometimes players might feel pressured to clutter their entire island with so much stuff it ends up looking more like a dump than a paradise island.

3 You Know Nothing

Since so many items just don’t exist in the game, players often have to come up with pretty creative solutions when decorating their islands. Sometimes these solutions also have a gameplay purpose, which Isabelle of course can’t understand.

Having random items like DIY recipes on the floor will actually count as littering, even if the player is using it as a way to store items due to limited storage space. Of course, Isabelle can’t understand this, no matter what.

2 Fence Galore

For those wanting to build that perfect 5-star island it’s important to invest in fences of all kind. These items do count towards a positive island rating, so ensuring that there’s enough of them on the island is key.

However, Isabelle seems a bit too obsessed with the fences. Nothing ever seems to be enough for her, and if it were up to her, she would probably have the entire island covered up in flowers and fences.

1 How Dogs Are

Time traveling is one of the ways in which people prefer to play the game, and there’s really no judgment. The funny thing is the player can decide the date to be whatever they please, and the game will just roll with it.

This was especially amusing back in New Leaf, where Isabelle wouldn’t bat an eye when the mayor of the town could simply change the date at any given moment. That’s just how dogs are.
