Tom Nook may be the face of the entire Animal Crossing: New Horizons game and the franchise itself, but no one can deny the cuteness and the importance of his nephews, Timmy and Tommy. These two mini versions of Tom are crucial to the game as they’re the ones who ultimately set up Nook’s Cranny, the general store of the island.

Although Timmy and Tommy are two fantastic characters, there are also a ton of inconsistencies and questions that need to be answered and addressed. Like all non-villager characters, they have a strange daily routine, along with a few weird quirks that just make no sense.

10 They Echo Each Other

Right from the very beginning of the game, it’s evident that these twins echo each other almost constantly. One visit to their store also shows this feature off, as they’ll often seem to speak in a singular voice and finish each other’s sentences.

The reason for this is unclear, and it’s a bit of a weird feature. One could argue it’s because they’re twins and extremely close to one another, but it would make more sense for the player to be able to distinguish between the two of them, or for them to even have slightly contrasting personalities.

9 The Turnip Restrictions

Turnips are basically the stocks in the universe of Animal Crossing, and a great little mini game that has the potential for the player to increase their profits exponentially within a week. However, this feature also has some strange rules related to Timmy and Tommy.

On Sundays, Timmy and Tommy don’t buy any turnips, because it’s the day Daisy Mae sells them. However, in real life, stocks are constantly sold every single day. The reason why this rule exists is purely for game-balancing purposes.

8 They Buy Anything

In reality, it’s pretty hard to sell old clothes and furniture for a profit, and most people are usually better off donating their old junk. However, Timmy and Tommy will literally buy anything you set in front of their eyes. That’s right: even trash has a price tag.

Whether the player presents a bunch of apples, weeds or some other random junk, these two will always be willing to take it off their hands without a single word of complaint. Is it profitable for them? Probably not.

7 They Only Have One Customer

It’s pretty evident that the only person who actually buys from Nook’s Cranny actively is the player themselves. While villagers might sometimes peruse the store for some items, they’re never really seen purchasing or selling anything.

That means Nook’s Cranny is supported pretty much by one person only, which is a very unfair and unreliable foundation to start a business on. Thankfully, Timmy and Tommy have the bottomless pockets of Tom Nook to rely on.

6 They Have No Home

This inconsistency also goes for Tom Nook and Isabelle, who are never actually seen sleeping (aside from occasional naps at their desks). Villagers will usually turn in for the night and lock their doors, preventing the players from bothering them, but that isn’t the case for non-villagers.

After their shop closes, Timmy and Tommy just sort of… disappear. It’s unclear whether they have a backroom in the store in which they sleep or if they just sleep on the floor. Hopefully, players will get answers some day.

5 They Have Weird Pricing

Entire essays could be written about the bizarre pricing in Nook’s Cranny. Some make perfect sense, while other items are just insanely overpriced.

Some of the expensive items found in the Nook’s Cranny store can go up $120K and more, and these can be simple decoration items or furniture. Let’s not even talk about electronics, which should probably be more way expensive than they are.

4 They Work Every Day

Normally, stores will have regular opening and closing hours, and while this is the case with Nook’s Cranny, they still have that weird feature where they force the player to trust the rest of the island not to steal by leaving their items in a drop box outside of the shop.

The main issue with the opening hours, however, is the fact that the shop is open every single day of the week. Not one day goes by when the player can’t walk into the store and buy whatever they want from the Nooklings. When do these guys get a day off and a break?

3 The Mountain Of Bugs And Insects

So, it’s evident that Timmy and Tommy buy just about anything, but an even more interesting and strange question to ponder is where these things actually go. Think of all the junk a player sells to them, and now think of what it would take to store or resell all of that.

Bugs and fish in particular are a bit problematic. They take space, and while fish can be turned into food, bugs just don’t seem like item that would have a proper market, especially considering the sheer amount of bugs the player sells.

2 They Sell Weird Things

Not only do Timmy and Tommy buy weird things, they also sell very, very bizarre things. There are countless of items that make absolutely no sense in the game, and it would take forever to list them all. However, players have no doubt walked into Nook’s Cranny one day and been profoundly confused by the items on display.

Take this shop for instance, in which the Nooklings were selling a skeleton and a human organ model on the same day. Morbid and weird!

1 They Have Endless Money

Fine, the Nooklings might be ready to buy anything at any time. Maybe they have great connections to sell whatever they want, who knows? But what about the bells they need to spend to buy all the junk the player offers them?

This argument goes back to Tom Nook, who actually funds his nephews’ business, and it’s still a big question mark how he even has all that money to begin with.
