Whilst Animal Crossing is one of the most popular simulation games for a variety of reasons, its anthropomorphic cast of characters makes the games special. The Nintendo franchise has spawned 397 villagers, each with its own personality, design, and traits throughout its 20-year history.
Apple, the peppy little hamster with rosy apple cheeks, was introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and has become a consistent character in every release since. Her colorful and cute home design brightens up any game, including New Horizons, and she is a great villager to have in your town.
10 You Can Find Her On An Album Cover
Apple can be seen on the front cover of the K.K. Slider song K.K. Gumbo in New Leaf. The track can be requested to be played by everyone’s favorite musical dog in New Horizons. The rosy cheeks of Apple are a giveaway as she is depicted as being part of the brass band. K.K. Gumbo is a traditional jazz piece inspired by New Orleans music.
The track has been around since the inception of the first Animal Crossing game, Dobutsu no Mori on the Nintendo 64. However, there was no artwork until New Leaf.
9 She Likes Things Cute And Simple
When thinking about giving Apple a gift, cute and simple themes are her favorite styles. Just like her name and outfit choices, Apple is a fan of things that are colorful but also things that are red. Fortunately, there are plenty of apple-themed items.
The importance of giving Apple the right items means you will get a picture frame with her photo inside it. The only way to get these frames is to achieve maximum friendship with a villager. This process can take weeks, but communicating, giving gifts, and completing tasks is the way to go.
8 She Has An Adorable Catchphrase
If you were to strike up a conversation with Apple then there would be no doubt she would utter her classic catchphrase. Apple loves to say “cheekers,” which is a hilarious connection to the fact she is a hamster with large cheeks. She will say it in most conversations.
In addition to this, Apple’s favorite saying is “one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel.” It’s a phrase that suits Apple’s cheerful personality as she doesn’t want to be or be associated with a bad apple.
7 She Has A Peppy Personality
Peppy is one of eight personalities in the Animal Crossing games. They’re great villagers to have due to their cheerful and upbeat natures. They are the friendliest characters in the game and will cheer on other villagers.
A character like Apple will happily talk to any villager but will react well with those that have lazy, normal, or jock personalities. A villager like Apple may become the brunt of jokes from snooty characters, but her positive nature makes her an enjoyable villager to have.
6 Her Name Doesn’t Translate As Expected
Despite being called Apple, her name bears great differences in other translations of Animal Crossing games. Dutch is the only other language that keeps her English name.
Due to the commonality of her name, you would think she would translate into another language’s word for Apple, such as Apfel (German) and Mela (Italian). Some examples of Apple’s translated names include Cicci (Italian), Rosi (Spanish), Jessi (German), and Esther (French). In East Asian languages, her name has a phonetic similarity to English pronunciation with Appuru (Japanese) and Aepeul (Korean).
5 She Became A Promotional Character
When the mobile game, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, reached its second anniversary, a monthly subscription service was released. This was called Pocket Camp Club and allowed players to have a villager buddy help them out as a caretaker. One of the villagers that could be chosen was Apple.
On top of that, Apple was portrayed in the poster for Pocket Camp Club as a rep alongside Isabelle and Roscoe. The subscription was useful when players couldn’t play the game as much.
4 She Loves Coffee
Apple’s Animal Crossing biography states that one of her favorite drinks includes coffee. One of the most desired features in New Horizons is Brewster who has been rumored as an addition to the game since its release. New Horizons is definitely lacking a classic coffee joint for all of the villagers to enjoy a drink.
One of the most hilarious exchanges with Apple in New Horizons happens when you speak to her after she’s had coffee and cannot sleep. Her entire dialogue, like other Animal Crossing villagers, is a hyperactive and chaotic mess.
3 She Has Had More Than One Favorite Song
When you visit Apple’s home in Animal Crossing New Leaf, it will play the song “I Love You,” an old K.K. Slider song that is heard in multiple villager’s houses.
However, in Happy Home Designer, on Apple’s client information card, it states that her favorite song is “DJ K.K.” This will be played in Apple’s house when you visit her in the game. It isn’t currently stated what Apple’s favorite song is in New Horizons. She will sing “I Love You” in New Horizons though.
2 She Has Had A Consistent Design Throughout The Games
Animal Crossing characters can be seen changing their custom shirt as a new game comes along. Apple, however, who has featured in four Animal Crossing games, has always worn the same marble dot shirt.
Apple likes things bright and colorful, and her polka dots capture just that. She can be given different items to wear; furthermore, in the Summer of 2020, she accessorized with a pair of sunglasses. As well as her shirt, the rest of Apple’s character design has practically remained unchanged with the same color scheme and inner green ears.
1 She Is One Of Eight Hamster Villagers
The hamster villagers were first introduced in New Leaf, with there initially being eight of them. In the Welcome Amiibo re-release of New Leaf, a ninth hamster called Holden was added. Holden can only visit the player and not actually live in the camp.
There are six male and three female hamsters, and their most common personality traits are jock and smug. Apple is the only peppy hamster and has the brightest color scheme. The other hamsters are Rodney, Clay, Flurry, Graham, Hamlet Hamphrey, and Soleil.
