The Nooks are some of the most important characters in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Without them, many of the key services on the island wouldn’t even be functional. However, thanks to their business-oriented mindset and bottomless pockets of money, they actually make it possible to live on a deserted island.

Timmy and Tommy in particular are key characters, since they basically manage Nook’s Cranny. They also are the ones who sign the player up for the island getaway program, and later on buy the player’s turnips. Timmy and Tommy are Tom’s young nephews, and businessmen in the making. But although they’re smart and adorable, there’s a lot about them that just doesn’t make sense.

10 Nice Pockets You Got There

Just stop for a second and think about all the weird stuff that Timmy and Tommy have had to witness and put up with due to the player. How many times have they had to keep a straight face while watching the player literally pull an entire zoo out of their pockets?

Reddit user rsusler felt the same way, which made for this fantastic realization. These poor little raccoons have so much to deal with, and the player isn’t making things any easier for them. They really need a break.

9 Secret Tarantula Stash

From a gameplay perspective it’s perfectly understandable that Timmy and Tommy would be ready to buy even the shirt off the player’s back if it came down to it. Still, just think of everything that’s ever been sold to these two, and think of where it might be.

Tarantulas, for instance, are the most hunted-down and desired creature in the Animal Crossing universe. It’s a miracle they aren’t extinct — and that there isn’t an infestation of them in the backroom of Nook’s Cranny.

8 Naruto Run Everywhere

Many will probably agree that having a shopkeeper following you in a store is pretty annoying and stifling. And yet, that’s exactly how the shopkeepers in Animal Crossing behave. In fact, it’s not just Timmy and Tommy; Mable is just as guilty of doing this.

The Nooklings, however, look even funnier as they rush after the player in full-on Naruto shinobi run-style as they peruse the day’s goodies at the store. Seems like everyone knows what they do with their free time now, thanks to Kunoichi123.

7 It’s Okay, Brother

It’s easy to forget that there are actually two brothers. Too often, only one of them talks and the other is just an echo. This is a pretty sad detail, one that plucks at the player’s heartstrings, and was captured by artist PentaMagic.

The other brother just wants to be heard for once. So, next time, talk to the Nookling that speaks less and give them a bit of love. In a shared business, it should be both of them working hard equally, but that clearly isn’t the case.

6 Delicious, Finally Some Money!

What do Timmy and Tommy do with their free time at the store when the player isn’t there (other than watch Naruto and practice the shinobi run)? Surely they don’t just sit outside of the store window and wait for the player to walk in with their bag of bells?

According to talented artist Jiayi, that’s exactly what’s happening behind the closed doors of Nook’s Cranny. No wonder the Nooklings run towards the player immediately when they enter the store, eyes shining at the prospect of profit.

5 Tarantulas And Turnips

In New Horizons, Tom Nook has taken a huge step back when it comes to handling any store business. That probably goes to show that he trusts his nephews with the money he gave them, but the real question is… should he?

What would Tom actually say if he saw his nephews spending countless amounts of money to buy tarantulas and turnips? What do the Nooklings even end up doing with all of that?

4 Stop Following Me

In the tiny Nook’s Cranny store, it’s pretty easy to get annoyed at the Nooklings constantly following the player around. Especially if they happen to stand in one of the corners and both Timmy and Tommy suddenly decide to block the player’s only escape route.

Why do these two raccoon boys feel the need to follow the player around so closely? Is it because they fear shoplifting? Or maybe they really are that hungry for the money.

3 Here’s Johnny!

Let’s be real for a second: everyone has made this mistake at least once in their Animal Crossing career. Standing by the doors of the shop, too busy to stand there properly and accidentally wielding an ax or even a shovel.

What ends up happening is the tool bounces off the door, but in reality, everyone knows what would have happened. Just imagine for a second how the Nooklings must feel, seeing a literal ax tear through the door of their shop. So, how does the tool end up bouncing off anyway?

2 A Nasty Surprise

The drop-off box is a brilliant invention, one that lets the player make money for the next day by pretty much depositing as much as they would like in the box, even after the store’s business hours. The next day, one of the Nooklings will call the player to inform they’ve been transferred money.

While some items are easy to put in the drop-off box, others… not so much. Storing wasps, dead fish, weeds and other smelly junk in there overnight just seems like a terrible surprise to leave for the Nooklings for the next morning.

1 The Echo

This detail in Timmy and Tommy will never, ever get old. It’s both cute and hilarious, but also a little bit sad. The Nooklings seem to speak at the same time, but one of them is perpetually a few words behind, which creates this strange echo effect.

Although the twins never seem to acknowledge it, it would make sense for the other to get annoyed at some point. Maybe this is even one of the arguments they have behind the closed doors of Nook’s Cranny.
