Having different species in the Animal Crossing franchise adds more room for players to favorite certain villagers and enjoy different types of looks. But it’s no secret that some species get more flack than others due to not being aesthetically pleasing enough. Gorilla villagers are hated while Cub villagers are adored.

This type of hustle and bustle over villager species can be avoided if gamers come together and make a list of what will and will not be stood for! Though there are over 35 different species in the franchise already, there are a billion more existing species that could be added!

10 SHOULD: More Birds

There are generally two types of birds in Animal Crossing. The eagles and the smaller birds. While some of the smaller birds take the appearance of specific breeds (like Robin and Sparro), there could be a lot more!

There are so many different kinds of birds in the world, leaving a lot of options for new, different bird villagers. Birds are compelling to a lot of people due to their varying color, shape, and size. So much so that birdwatching is almost like a sport! There is definitely space for more in the game.

9 SHOULDN’T: Dolphins

Dolphins are widely liked by most people in the real world. People even pay to see them in tanks and doing tricks! But maybe they shouldn’t be an Animal Crossing villager.

As cute as it may sound, there can’t be any way to make a water-dwelling creature look normal walking around in a village. They have no legs! Not only that but isn’t it weird for fish to be villagers when we catch them at sea? Then again, players can catch fish and turtles already so… Up for debate!

8 SHOULD: Flamingos

The game already has ostriches in the game so flamingos aren’t a long shot, here! Flamingos are known for being more physically appealing than ostriches, anyway. It’s well-known that physical aesthetics are important to Animal Crossing players when picking villagers.

Though they are usually pink in real life, having some blue and purple flamingos would be fun. This seems like a must, if not as a villager than as some special NPC.

7 SHOULDN’T: Rats

Rats are a popular pet among some, but the majority of the world finds them appalling. It’s up to debate whether or not they are cuter in real life than in cartoons and video games, but name one media that has done a rat justice!

In games and cartoons, rats always end up looking crazy and a little off their rocker. Though it could potentially work as a villager, nobody wants a villager that looks like it just came out of the dumpster. Or maybe they do.

6 SHOULD: Lemurs

Again, there are already monkeys and gorillas in the game, but there are so many other types of monkeys and the like of. Some are… not the prettiest but others are kind of cute? Lemurs have been in children’s media before so lemurs are a welcoming animal to see on your screen.

Having a lemur walking around with that ringed tail and a cute name asking you about your day can only spell New Favorite Villager Alert.

5 SHOULDN’T: Baboons

So yes, the game has monkeys and gorillas and yes some other related animals are cute and should be added (like the lemur)… Well here is the one that shouldn’t. Baboons have their place. But not in Animal Crossing!

Based on physical appearance alone, some players may find the baboon’s appearance particularly offensive to their eyes and overall town vibe. Island aesthetics in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, for example, is an important thing that is boosting the game’s popularity. “Ugly villagers” affect this and baboons would definitely fit that bill!

4 SHOULD: More Reptiles

Think about it for a second. What if we had more Flick’s running around? Flick is a very popular event NPC in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that the fandom absolutely adores.

Having reptilian pets such as turtles, bearded dragons, and lizards are very common now and players would love to see their own beloved pets in the game!

3 SHOULDN’T: Dinosaurs

Now, this right here would just be plain weird. You spend every day digging up fossils and donating them to the museum, seeing the bones of these ancient creatures. Wouldn’t it be odd to have one walking around?

Dinosaurs as an event NPC or villager species sounds epic at first, but once you think about the museum and Blathers… Maybe it should never happen.

2 SHOULD: Chipmunks

The game has squirrels. This is very close… almost there Nintendo! Chipmunks are like the extra cute version of squirrels. They would instantly become popular villagers people would end up selling and trading in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Small, cute, and adorable are all important factors for players when they decide whether or not to love and want villagers. Chipmunks would, without a doubt, be an immediate favorite.

1 SHOULDN’T: Emus

Emu’s look crazy. This truth can’t be hidden for long… They may not be entirely ugly or pretty, but they are a bit unsettling. If anything an emu in the franchise would be an interesting event NPC that acts questionably.

The last thing players need is a tall bird that looks like it’s been studying an ancient text since 1800 and only now came out of its house now, running around wild!
