As of today, the Sanrio-themed Animal Crossing amiibo cards will now work in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, allowing anyone who already owns the cards to start inviting their favorite villagers right away. For those who don’t already own the cards, Nintendo is re-releasing them on March 26th, 2021, so you can try and score yourself a pack then.

Inviting these special villagers to your island will also unlock their adorable Sanrio-themed furnishings and clothing. If you’re wondering which of these returning characters deserve a spot on your island, we’ve got each one ranked right here based on their appearance and home furnishings.

6 Chelsea

Chelsea is an adorable Deer villager with a Normal personality. Her appearance and home are based on the Sanrio character My Melody. Rather fittingly, her birthday falls on January 18th, the same date as My Melody’s birthday, while her catchphrase of “pound cake” is a reference to My Melody’s favorite food — almond pound cake.

The items that Chelsea decorates her home with, and that you can access by scanning her amiibo card, are all in cute shades of pink, with many decorated to appear like or feature the face of My Melody. The highlights are the My Melody Bed, Dresser, and Chair, as all of these have cute little bunny ears on top of them.

5 Rilla

Rilla is a sweet Gorilla villager with a Peppy personality and a love for all things Hello Kitty, the Sanrio character her appearance and home are based on. She shares her birthday of November 1st with the famous feline, can be seen sporting the same adorable little bow on her head, and her catchphrase of “hello” also pays tribute to Hello Kitty. Rilla has an appreciation for nature, so she’ll often be found outside watering flowers or fishing.

Her home is kitted out in plenty of Hello Kitty-themed items and a matching color scheme of red, blue, and white. While all of the items in Rilla’s home are absolutely adorable, the highlights are undoubtedly the Hello Kitty-shaped planter and the Hello Kitty Rug — after all, who doesn’t want to be greeted by a large Hello Kitty face when they first walk into their home?

4 Toby

Toby is a rabbit villager with the Smug personality type and is based on the Sanrio character Keroppi (Kerokerokeroppi). Both characters share their birthday of July 10th and Toby’s catchphrase of “ribbit” also pays tribute to the Sanrio character. Toby has a music hobby, which is likely also a nod to Keroppi who is known for his love of singing.

Toby’s house is decorated in a lovely mix of traditional Japanese style with a healthy flavoring of Kerokerokeroppi themes. Highlights include the super cute Kerokerokeroppi Snack and the Kerokerokeroppi Bridge. However, arguably, this whole set is a winner as the mix of traditional furnishing with the sweet little googly eyes of Keroppi is sure to be a fan favorite.

3 Chai

Chai is a gorgeous Elephant villager with a Peppy personality typing. Her outfit and home are inspired by the Sanrio character Cinnamoroll and most notably, Chai has a pink teacup atop her head, making her absolutely adorable. Chai shares her birthday of March 6th with Cinnamoroll, whereas her “flap flap” catchphrase likely alludes to Cinnamoroll flying with his large ears.

Chai’s house is decked out in pastel colors and lots of adorable Cinnamoroll-themed furnishings. The Cinnamoroll Tray, Signage, and Parasol would all make welcome additions to anyone who has a cafe on their island.

2 Etoile

Etoile is a beautiful pastel-colored Sheep villager with a Normal personality. Unlike the other Sanrio villagers, she is not based on one single character but is instead inspired by the Little Twin Stars Sanrio franchise. Etoile has a music hobby, meaning that she can often be found singing while on your island. The Little Twin Stars characters Lala and Kiki were born on December 24th, but Etoile’s birthday is actually the day after, on December 25th — Toy Day in the Animal Crossing world.

Her home is decorated in gorgeous pastel rainbow colors and as the furnishings are themed after the Little Twin Stars franchise, they feature lots of stars and clouds. Highlights include the fluffy Kiki & Lala Bed and Sofa, as well as the adorable Kiki & Lala Cloud Maker.

1 Marty

Marty is a sweet little bear cub villager with a Lazy personality. His appearance and home are all inspired by the Sanrio character Pompompurin, with who he shares his birthday of April 16th. Additionally, his catchphrase of “pompom” also pays tribute to the Sanrio character. Rather adorably, Marty has the play hobby, so he’ll often be running around your island doing zoomies.

His home is decorated in shades of golden honey and brown colors and has a wealth of Pompompuri-inspired items inside. The fan-favorite will likely be the Pompompurin Rug, which shows the Sanrio character’s butt. Other highlights include the Pompompurin Pudding, which looks too delicious to eat! This set also has many items that would work well in a cafe setting.
