We all remember the unlikely-yet-incredible friendship that Animal Crossing: New Horizons and DOOM Eternal formed in March, their fates coincidentally intertwined thanks to an identical launch date. They say opposites attract, and opposites they most certainly are. One game is peaceful, quiet, and relaxing – the other gory, relentless, and stressful. The pair goes together like salty and sweet, peanut butter and jelly, Bonnie and Clyde… well, you get the point.

Regarding music, you wouldn’t think that ukulele-driven island pop would go well with power metal either, especially not in the same damn song. But by golly The Chalkeaters have pulled it off, combining the genres in a music video featuring our favorite characters from DOOM and Animal Crossing. The result is nothing short of spectacular.

It begins with Isabelle from AC strolling around an island, singing a jolly tune. She mentions her encounter with the DOOM Guy, and the song’s lyrics begin to take a dark turn. Suddenly, the pair jump through and inter-dimensional portal and start tearing apart demons together.

The music shifts right with the visuals, Isabelle turning to scream-o while ripping and tearing evil creatures down. Even K.K. Slider is shown shredding licks on an electric battle-ax guitar with glowing red eyes.

The rest of the song features heroic, power metal backing as Isabelle sings hopeful lyrics of their friendship. She and DOOM Guy dynamically shift their activities between innocent island fun and hellish nightmare-battles. The striking contrast is demonstrated with both art-style and lyrics, Isabelle singing “fishing rods, big freaking guns.” It all winds down with K.K. Slider and a revenant demon playing the ukulele and trumpet, respectively.

The entire project was brilliantly created by The Chalkeaters, self-described as a “gaming music project based in Saint Petersburg, Russia.” They previously produced a viral video poking fun at Todd Howard and Bethesda, so The Chalkeaters seem to be well-versed in the current desires of fans. Even though the subject was more popular about a month ago, the “DOOM CROSSING: Eternal Horizons” music video already boasts an impressive 4 million views despite only being out for around 10 days. Fans truly are in love with the awkward friendship between these two worlds.
