In previous Nintendo Animal Crossing games, players had every NPC and shop at their very disposal at all times. While they all had strict hours players had to abide by, once they were unlocked, a shop never left. This ended up being fairly different in Animal Crossing: New Horizons since many NPCs can’t afford to drop everything and start their business on a deserted island!
Vendors come and go, selling all sorts of goods, but some are pretty boring in the long run aren’t they? While with others, you hope and pray they visit on time! Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ visitors do a great job at keeping island life lively– but some are better guests than others.
9 Label Able (A.K.A. Labelle)
Label is a crucial part of fashion in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, being the only way you can purchase hats and face accessories. But in New Horizons, she has other plans. With Able Sisters selling hats and accessories on their own now, Label has took it upon herself to try critiquing fashion around the globe!
Except… Is it worth it for the player? Label is last place for island visitors because all she does (if you don’t succeed) is give you clothing you can find in the shop already. If you do succeed the fashion check, you’re just given her custom clothing which isn’t all that fancy in comparison to what players create via Custom Designs.
8 Gulliver
Gulliver, sweet, sweet, Gulliver. A treasured friend. A sailor out at sea, gone to the waves but given life once more! Gulliver’s antics and dialogue have always been goofy and funny to read since the beginning of time. Finding an unconscious body on your beach is as exciting as Animal Crossing gets!
Once helping Gulliver out, he sends the player an item the next day in the mail. Except it’s just one item and sometimes it can be pretty bad. In rare occasions it can be really cool, though. His personality makes up for the sometimes bad gifts. It’s the thought that counts.
7 Saharah
Let’s face it, no one wants to put all their trust in a home designer just for them to turn their chic idea of a living room into a jungle gym for four-year-olds. In New Leaf, Saharah would do just that. Services consisted of turning around the players home, thinking she did good…
Players don’t have to bet it all in New Horizons though, making exchanges with her less stressful. The rugs and wallpaper are all still unknown until you purchase them, but with the farming players do, they have the money to blow to see what Saharah has– and sometimes her stock is actually decent!
6 Redd
Redd is a very important man. Or fox. Or fox-man. Sure, he may sometimes sell the player the odd fake art and rip them off, but furniture is furniture! Filling Blathers’ museum is a priority, but decorating the island comes first!
When players get fake art, they can use it for themselves and paint the town. Whether there is true value in what someone buys from Redd or not, he offers unique furniture options (paintings, vanities, statues) that can further players’ creative vision!
5 C.J.
Animal Crossing may have been about relaxation for series veterans, but no one knows how to grind for Bells like New Horizons’ newcomers. C.J. is an integral part of earning Bells. People already fish for simple pleasure or expanding their museum & encyclopedia, so selling some on top of that keeps the cogwheels turning.
C.J. buys fish for more than Timmy & Tommy will, making it a smart money move to sell unwanted fish to him whenever he’s around.
4 Flick
Flick is just as useful as C.J and has about the same use! He is also very useful for earning Bells to pay off that loan or to get enough money to buy that one villager off somebody.
Bugs are love, bugs are life to Flick. Not only does he buy critters for more than Timmy & Tommy would, but if the player gives him three of the same critter, he can make a statue of it! Unique furniture and Bells in one.
3 Leif
Leif used to have his own designated store, but now that he doesn’t, it is crucial when he arrives! Some people simply need rare plants to decorate their island with, while others want to try and breed hybrids to participate in trading.
None of this can be done if not for Leif’s rotation around different islands. He will also buy weeds off you for more than Timmy & Tommy will. Leif is an all around useful, cute little sloth.
2 Kicks
It is a sad fact that Kicks doesn’t have his own permanent store like he used to. He used to be the only way to get shoes, but the Able Sisters have taken that up too. That said, Animal Crossing: New Horizons had introduced bags!
Bags introduced a whole new world of customization into Animal Crossing. The Island Representative is more fashionable and realistic than ever before. Bags are something you can only get from Kicks. Kicks’ presence is always appreciated!
1 Daisy Mae
Daisy Mae has to be the best island visitor, whether one typically buys and sells turnips or not. Players don’t have to participate in the stalk market to realize how big and booming it is for Daisy Mae & others.
People want Bells and they want them fast. They horde and protect turnips like it’s nobody’s business. Things get expensive fast around here if players don’t pay up their loan and instead keep buying out the store. Bells are needed and Daisy Mae is a help that many not only use but abuse!
