Being able to customize the entire island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the best parts of the game for many players. Through the use of furniture and DIY items, players can customize every inch of their island to look however they want. From city-themed islands to more natural ones, some players are getting super creative.

But, as anyone who has played will know, the island is massive and it can be tough to decide how to fill that space. Searching the internet for ideas will bring up quite a few, but most of the creative island ideas people have shown off are cafes. Though they’re cute, just about everyone has already done that. So, what else can players do on their islands?

10 A Zoo

One way to fill space is by making a zoo. This can be combined with a pathway through the island to reach another area and will fill space on one or both sides of the path. With the use of fencing, paths, and items like the panda stuffed animals and flamingo models, the player can make a super creative zoo area that is so fun to look at.

9 A Grand Entrance

The entryway of the island is one that can be pretty tough for many players to design. It’s the first thing people see when they visit, so it’s definitely an area that can’t be overlooked. This part of the island can be designed in any way, depending on the look and feel the player is going for with their island, but symmetry is the key.

Using the terraforming tools to add waterfalls and cliffs on either side of a path to Resident Services will make it look so nice.

8 A Spooky Graveyard

One of the many DIY recipes that a player’s residents can give them is the tombstone. A variety of different styles can be created by the player, so why not create a whole graveyard section of the island?

With the use of flowers in colors like black, white, and purple, some stone fencing, and some creative paths, the player can create a little area of their island that looks perfectly spooky.

7 This Museum Entrance

The museum is a building that can be placed anywhere on the island and some players have gotten really creative with the area that surrounds and leads up to this area. Although all the extra fossils that are turned into Blathers are definitely worth some serious Bells when sold to Timmy and Tommy, they can also be used to decorate the area leading up to the museum.

6 A Fortune Teller’s Forest Stand

Along with several new special characters that visit players’ islands, there are also quite a few special characters that have yet to make it to our islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Among them is Katrina, a fortune telling panther.

Players have gotten seriously creative with the designs that can be put on the stall purchased with Nook Miles. Many players even put custom fortune teller-inspired patterns on them with candles and the fortune teller set to create an area that Katrina would definitely approve of.

5 An Exclusive Pool

Considering this game is set on a tropical island, there’s plenty of space for the player and all their neighbors to head to the beach and soak up some sun. But, there’s a pool that can be purchased with Nook Miles that would definitely make a great addition to any island.

With the use of some stone or tile paths and a few pieces of furniture like lounge chairs, lockers, and screens, the player can create the perfect pool area for their villagers to take a dip in the water.

4 A Garden Shed

Gardening is a huge part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Trying to breed flowers to get all the hybrid colors in order to decorate the island is something that many players spend a ton of time with. With the use of simple panels and stalls customized with some floral patterns and other outdoor-inspired items, the player can create the perfect little garden shed.

3 A Beachside Lounge

While a lot of island decoration focuses on the main areas of the island, players are also able to place things on the beach, and this area should definitely not be ignored. There are tons of items like surfboards, lounge chairs, and coolers that can be purchased from Timmy and Tommy or the Nook Shopping app, as well as a ton of items that can be bought with Nook Miles that will make a beachy lounge look so relaxing.

2 Somewhere To Relax

Island life can be tiring. From digging up fossils to watering flowers and chatting with villagers, there’s a lot for players to do! This means that every island needs somewhere to just relax and unwind for a while. With the terraforming tools, players can make waterfalls and place furniture that will help them to have a moment of calm during their busy days on the island.

1 An Archaeology Dig Site

There are fossils buried all over the island. As lazy villagers will point out to a player if they spend all day digging them up, that means that a ton of dinosaurs once called that island home! What better way to pay homage to them than by dedicating a section of the island to an archaeological dig site?

This needs to be placed on the second or third story of the island so that the player can use the Cliff Permit to build the ground up around a hole in the center where items like a shovel, fossils, and a handcart can be placed to make it look like someone was just digging up ancient bones.
