As of March 28, the Bunny Day event has officially started up again in Animal Crossing New Horizons, and players have mixed reactions about it. For some players, Bunny Day is a cute event that introduces colorful new items and breaks up the now-routine gameplay of New Horizons.

However, for the majority of players, Bunny Day is synonymous with a tedious and excruciating nightmare, inflicted on innocent gamers by an overly cheerful man in a bunny suit. From the swarm of Water Eggs to Zipper’s unnerving dancing, Bunny Day found plenty of ways to hilariously outrage New Horizons fans.

10 Who’s That Pokemon? Another Egg, Of Course

Fishing is the favorite pastime of many Animal Crossing players and was perhaps the function of Bunny Day that the fanbase most hated. That excitement of seeing a fish silhouette and that moment of speculation of what kind of fish it might be just before it is reeled in was completely ruined with the arrival of Water Eggs.

Since so many fish shadows had become eggs, including fish caught on island tours, players continually experienced the betrayal of what they expected to be fish turning out to be Water Eggs. What better way to capture that moment of anticipation and ultimate disappointment than a meme of the guessing game of Who’s That Pokemon?

9 March Hare Madness

For many players caught in the midst of Bunny Day frustration, it began to feel like the entire game was defined by Zipper’s mad quest for eggs. Rather than focusing on the cute animal villagers promised in the series’ title, players were forced to focus on eggs, as every mechanic in the game became about egg gathering.

The seemingly omnipresent Zipper and his off-putting smile and dead-eyed stare haunted players like this Reddit poster for weeks in April. By the time he finally left, it did begin to feel like the island was entirely populated by Zippers.

8 It Can Always Get Worse

2020 was a difficult year, and when New Horizons arrived in March right at the beginning of quarantine, it provided a comfortable escape from reality for many players. But just as New Horizons was becoming the bright spot of gamers’ year, April started within just two weeks of the game’s release date, and many gamers’ beautiful escape was ruined.

Players can breathe a sigh of relief that this year’s Bunny Day will at least come and go earlier in the year and will be over with by the end of the week. A less disruptive Bunny Day is at least one way 2021 can improve on 2020.

7 Be Careful What You Wish For

The sea bass has been a longstanding and infamous annoyance for Animal Crossing fans since the very first entry of the series. The hope and expectation upon seeing a large fish shadow in the ocean and the instant regret as the fish turns out to be yet another sea bass is a sensation all too familiar to any Animal Crossing player.

In a strange turn of events, Bunny Day somehow managed to make players long for the return of the sea bass. After catching dozens of Water Eggs in a row, players would have gladly accepted the sea bass they had previously complained about, if only to have a break from the egg invasion.

6 The Bright Side

Thankfully, there is one perk to logging into New Horizons in early April, which is the reappearance of cherry blossoms. All of the hardwood leaves gain a pretty new pink shade, and like December’s falling snowflakes, players can now catch floating petals with their nets in addition to the new season’s bugs.

Furthermore, this April offers a second chance to collect the cherry blossom DIY recipes players missed the first time around. While the surplus of eggs around Bunny Day is still a pain, at least there are cherry blossom items to lessen the blow.

5 Cranky Crafting

Due to the excess of eggs from the six different types and the limited number of unique items to craft with them, players frequently found themselves at a loss when it came to using the new crafting material. The Nooks paid very little for eggs, and they certainly were not worth wasting storage space on.

Eventually, players realized that crafting any of the Bunny Day items and selling those items in bulk was actually worth a fair amount of Bells. However, this realization only eased the irritation of Bunny Day so much. Considering New Horizon’s already-tedious crafting system, repeatedly building egg-themed furniture to sell became a pain in itself.

4 It’s A Bird; It’s A Plane; No, It’s Another Sky Egg!

While most complaints from fans addressed the abundance of water eggs replacing fish, even more infuriating for some was the replacement of regular balloon drops with sky eggs. In the early days of New Horizons, new players eagerly looked forward to shooting down balloons, as they provided the opportunity to learn an exciting new DIY recipe.

As Bunny Day happened during April, it coincided with the cherry blossom season, in which players had a limited time to obtain all of the cherry blossom recipes which were exclusively dropped from balloons. Unfortunately, many players were unable to get all of these recipes because the majority of balloons had become Bunny Day-themed.

3 Sit In The Corner And Think About What You Did

Most players have amused themselves with New Horizons’ fence building mechanic by now, using fences and the iron bars DIY to temporarily trap the oblivious villagers and visitors on their island. It was only a matter of time then until players turned their innate desire to trap their neighbors toward Zipper.

The unnervingly peppy man in a bunny suit, who gleefully danced in the middle of the confusion he made of the player’s island, was a perfect candidate for cancellation and incarceration. Many players are likely building prisons for Zipper once more, now that he has returned.

2 Selling All Of The Bugs

During the insanity of the days leading up to Bunny Day, classic tasks like catching fish, digging up fossils, chopping wood, shooting balloons, smacking rocks, and shaking trees no longer produced their typical items. Almost every major mechanic in the game changed to become some kind of Easter egg hunt.

Because catching bugs was the only mechanic left untainted by the eggs, gamers who needed to make Bells to pay off their loans resorted to full-time bug-catching. It was no surprise then that players turned to tarantula money-making schemes during this time.

1 The Final Letdown

After players had endured the frustrations caused by the Bunny Day event and had crafted every egg item multiple times, it was finally time to talk to Zipper on Bunny Day and receive the reward. After crafting even more new egg items on the day of, players finally received Zipper’s reward which was yet another star wand, this one with an egg design.

Considering all star wands are functionally the same item, the Bunny Day Wand was a huge letdown for many players, and the mix of anger and confusion on Aladdin’s face perfectly captures the disappointment and betrayal players felt by the end of Bunny Day.
