Animal Crossing has been dropping regular content updates since it’s release in March. To round out the summer, the game put out a small themed upgrade that actually has fans a bit divided. At the same time, the update did add in some important new features, many fans where left feeling like the update shouldn’t have been needed in the first place.
Other players did enjoy the addition of a few more events to do with their villagers, especially since they could easily visit other islands now. Below are the five best additions to the game and the five worst things about the update.
10 Best: Fireworks
Adding fireworks back into the game was a great decision and really added a fun summer vibe. The fireworks are a great excuse to get some cute accessories from Redd’s lotto table and invite your friends over.
The island truly feels like summer with weekly fireworks lighting up the sky.
9 Worst: Firework Angles
The angles for the fireworks could be a bit better. It’s pretty hard to just casually watch the show as you enjoy doing activities around the map. The show also doesn’t feel as grand as it did in older games, and players wish there would have been more themed items.
A simple firework show just may not have been a great follow-up to the fun addition of diving.
8 Best: Save Data Backup
One feature that players have been missing since the game was released as a way to save their game online. As many gamers know, accidents happen, and a broken Switch can cause you to lose your whole island.
With this new feature, your island is saved online and won’t completely disappear if you drop your Switch in the bathtub.
7 Worst: Limited Save Backups
There are a ton of limitations with the save feature. The biggest one is that it’s still hard to transfer your island to another console and may not be possible at all. This is a let down for people wanting to upgrade from the Switch Lite.
It’s a huge letdown for people who are wanting to spend more money on Nintendo by buying a newer Switch.
6 Best: Saves Works With Your Account
The good news is that the save feature works with your online account. While you do have to have the subscription, a majority of players already have a full year paid. This ensures that you don’t have to jump through hoops if something does happen to your Switch.
Connecting the game to your username is better than just your Switch serial number.
5 Worst: You Don’t Control it
Even with all the good that the save system does, it still has one huge problem; you don’t have access to your save. Only Nintendo has access to the save and can back up the data if something happens to your Switch.
That means you have to call them and send in your damaged Switch in order to restore your island.
4 Best: Dream World Addition
Adding Dream Worlds back in adds a safe way to visit islands. You don’t have to worry about allowing players to wander around your island. Instead, you can now simply upload your creation to the Dream World and let players from all over explore.
This is a feature available in previous games that made finding inspiration for your town much easier.
3 Worst: Deleting Worlds
Nintendo isn’t too happy with some of it’s Animal Crossing players. Any worlds that have been deemed as cheating will be removed from the program. This has enraged tons of players that believe players should be able to play the way you want to.
This is dishearting to many players, especially if they got cheated items from other players.
2 Best: More Design Features
The design hub has had a huge upgrade, and it’s now easier to search for designs. This makes it easier to search up designs in-game without having to rely on forums to find the design codes you like.
Many players are already in love with this feature and have been using it to decorate their island. Now all the game needs to add in is more pattern slots.
1 Worst: It All Should Have Already Been in The Game
The biggest complaint players have, especially ones that have played games before, is that this all should have already been in the game. Fireworks are a simple feature that has always been added in at the game’s launch.
Luna and her services have also traditionally been built-into the games. Many players felt that the update was lackluster, and the summer slot could have gone to more interesting features like updating the museum.
