The world of Animal Crossing is filled with notable characters that capture the admiration of fans from around the world. Isabelle is one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise other than Tom Nook.

Isabelle has been featured in crossover art and has made her way into other Nintendo franchises. She has even had her own merchandise lines and amiibos made of her. Just how great is Isabelle, though? Is she truly the best character from the series? Today, we’ll line up a few solid arguments concerning why she is or isn’t the best villager in the game.

10 Best: She’s Helpful

To start off, Isabelle is much more helpful than other villagers. She will give you tips and the items you need to get started. While other villagers will occasionally give you items, they aren’t directly interested in actually helping to develop your town or giving you advice about how to improve your rating.

Isabelle has your back, and while she doesn’t donate bells, she wants to see you and the town around her flourish.

9 Isn’t: Not Enough Interaction

Isabelle as extremely limited interactions. She feels more like an NPC than the other villagers. She doesn’t have a shop that gets upgraded, and she doesn’t give you quests to do. She also never really interacts with the other villagers, which feels a bit strange considering her position. You’d think she would at least go outside and talk to the citizens during special events she hosts.

8 Best: She Disciplines the Citizens

Everyone in the game is nice to each other other than slight bits of gossip and small fights. Isabelle, on the other hand, is more than happy to go out and tell villagers how you feel. You can report any villager to her, and she will make them change how they talk or completely change their outfit.

Her adorable demeanor may be misleading, since this indicates that Isabelle might actually be the most aggressive character in the series.

7 Isn’t: No House

Despite obviously living in your town, Isabelle never gets a house. This is a bit of a letdown as it would be fun to see her get off work from time to time. While you can design her a house in the spin-off title Happy Home Designer, it seems that her home will never appear in the mainline games.

6 Best: She Can Fight

Contributing to her potential as the most aggressive villager in the game, she can actually fight, as seen in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Isabelle has a wide range of attacks that can deal some serious damage. In fact, she may be all that stands between your town and being overrun by a horde of evil demons, considering the immense fandom concerning her alleged friendship with none other than the Doomslayer.

To top it all off, she looks positively delighted when fighting other characters in Smash.

5 Isn’t: Limited Dialogue

Isabelle has a lot of dialogue, but it’s extremely limited. She doesn’t get to tell you witty jokes or off the cuff facts as the other villagers do. This is a huge letdown for players who want to learn everything they can about the adorable dog.

Most of Isabelle’s dialogue seems like it will always relate directly to the town.

4 Best: She’s An Amazing Mayoral Assistant

Isabelle doesn’t mind extra work and helps the mayor keep up with his town. Once you arrive, she gladly puts her all into assisting you and answering any questions you may have about developments. In the latest game, she is happy to help you improve your town.

She is a great way to gather info on the things you need to bring K. K. Slider to town.

3 Isn’t: Is Almost Always Behind a Desk

Isabelle is literally always behind a desk of some type, other than the few times she hosts festivals. It almost seems like she doesn’t have any hobbies outside of work. This is a bit of a downer considering the fact that everyone else in the game has passions or stores they are pouring their hearts into. Isabelle needs to get some more hobbies.

2 Best: She is Permanent

You will never have to worry about Isabelle trying to leave you. Isabelle is a loyal character who will stay in your town no matter what. She is the most loyal resident you can have, and players should feel lucky to have her. Isabelle would probably stay in your town, even if you were the only one left. That’s dedication.

1 Isn’t: There is no Alternative

While it’s great that Isabelle is always around, the fact is is that players have no other choice. You can’t choose to have Digby come help you run the town, Isabelle is truly the only option. It’s almost impossible to avoid talking with Isabelle as she is one of the key factors in growing your town. In a game that’s so customization heavy, this can be a tad bit of a letdown, even if she is perfectly adorable.
