Marvel mistakenly thought it had the ultimate crossover event with the films Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. It didn’t realize Nintendo had an even more powerful ace up its sleeve. As was likely inevitable due to the massive success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it seems Tetris 99 is about to get a dash of some Tom Nook goodness.
This weekend, players will be able to take part in an Animal Crossing themed Maximus cup to receive a New Horizons styled theme. Running from May 15 until May 19, the requirement is the same as past events. Earn 100 points over the course of the weekend and the theme will be yours to keep.
A look at the theme on Nintendo of Japan’s Twitter account shows off the different tunes that will play as players are eliminated. It uses a particularly jazzy selection of songs, which doesn’t seem to make sense in Tetris 99. Then again, it’s Animal Crossing, so I NEED IT!
If you happen to miss the event, fear not. Tetris 99 does have the feature to unlock past Maximus themes via tickets. You’ll have to earn 30 to gain the privilege, but at least this cute theme won’t be a three-day exclusive. Everyone needs more Animal Crossing in their lives.
