This Animal Crossing: New Horizons player turned their island into a copy of SEGA’s classic arcade racing game, Out Run.

Oh to be back in the glory days of the arcade. Games like Galaga, Golden Axe, and Out Run were the bomb diggity. And apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks that since this Animal Crossing player decided to turn their island into a tribute to perhaps the greatest racing game ever made.

Out Run was originally a Sega arcade box circa 1986. You drive a Ferrari (although it’s never actually identified as a Ferrari) to one of five different destinations. It’s a race against the clock, avoiding obstacles like other cars, rocks, and sudden twists and turns in the road.

What made Out Run amazing an instant classic was how it managed to convey a sense of speed entirely via Super-Scaler sprites. And now you can get that same sensation in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Head on over to the island of Twitter user @uma73 to witness their version of Out Run. It’s not exactly to scale, and you can’t actually drive around in the race car bed that’s sort of just lying in the middle of the road, but the replicated obstacles like rocks, trees, and signposts are all picture-perfect replicas of the classic Sega arcade game.
