Animal Crossing players are having a lot of fun with new custom fireworks designs.
The second wave of Animal Crossing’s summer update just happened last week, bringing with it a host of new features including dream islands and the ability to backup your island. It also brought a festive new weekly event as well: a fireworks display to celebrate the summer.
We just had our first fireworks display yesterday at 7 PM local time, and it will be repeated every Sunday for the rest of August. And even though they only had a few days to prepare, Animal Crossing fans got extremely creative when it came to their personal fireworks shows.
Just like with many of Animal Crossing’s items, you can create your own custom designs to use to make fireworks. This basically turns whatever you make into a disintegrating aerial image that will impress your villagers for a few seconds every Sunday before they move on with their lives.
But it’s also a method of flying your freak flag in a way that has never been seen in Animal Crossing.
As expected, most people took the opportunity of custom fireworks designs to make… well, let’s say “phallic-inspired” creations that can be seen for miles around. One truly wonders if this is what Nintendo intended when they made fireworks as a customizable option in the summer update.
But besides the organically-themed designs, New Horizons fans are also making some great custom art. Here’s a few that decided to make designs of their villagers–a cute touch, since villagers will congregate in front of town hall whenever the fireworks display starts.
Some folks decided to throw their hand at corporate sponsorship with their fireworks displays.
Summer is the time of gay pride, so those freak flags are flying high in this LGBTQ+ display.
Other Animal Crossing players got political with their displays. Here’s one from Hong Kong protestors that reads “Free Hong Kong,” a move designed to keep the movement alive after the game was banned in China.
Here’s one of President Obama, because of course he’s going to become an Animal Crossing meme.
Still others decided to inject their own personal art into Animal Crossing.
Sunday’s fireworks show is getting so popular that some players have even made custom seating designs to make watching the fireworks a little more comfortable.
