The musicians that made the beautiful music in Animal Crossing: New Horizons came together online for a one-time special performance on social media.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ music is perfect. It’s chill, ambient, and easily forgettable when you’re not thinking about it–the perfect backdrop to farming turnips, fishing, or running in stark terror from an angry scorpion.

It’s also easy to forget that the music in New Horizons is made with real instruments played by real people. And those people just performed a special concert on Twitter to keep everyone’s spirits up during the coronavirus pandemic.

With Eric Miyashiro on the flugelhorn, Tetsuro Toyama on the ukelele and acoustic guitar, MATARO on percussion (including bongo, tambourine, and shaker), Takashi Ebinuma on the bass, and Saburo Tanooka on accordion, the fivesome performed from their respective home studios in this heartwarming rendition of the New Horizons’ theme song.

And for those wondering just what the heck is a flugelhorn, it’s German brass instrument that’s like a trumpet, only with a bigger cone and a slightly less compact set of tubes. The sound is often described as being a lot more mellow than a trumpet, which makes it the perfect brass instrument to include in an Animal Crossing game.
