While Animal Crossing: New Horizons is, overall, great at allowing the player to manipulate their island in a variety of ways, it isn’t always the most user-friendly experience. This includes, but is not limited to, the terraforming that goes on New Horizons. However, with a tool built by one itch.io modder, users can handily terraform their island.
According to Polygon, the tool is fairly dynamic and makes terraforming far easier compared to the usual long process of reconstructing one’s island.
As per a video tweeted by Twitter user bobacupcake, who also developed the terraforming component, the tool allows you to terraform your island with easy, forming rivers with little effort. The video can be seen below.
As noted by the modder, the “island planner,” the tool is in its early phases, which means there could be some stuff yet to work out. However, while there may still be kinks, the tool allows you to elevate landmasses, create rivers and waterfalls, establish patches of dirt and sand, and make diagonal pieces of land. It has a very Sims vibe to it, compared to New Horizons’ previous terraforming techniques.
Of course, the idea of downloading this software may be a turnoff to some. As such, perhaps this will inspire Nintendo to streamline the terraforming system and make it less frustrating on players’ behalves. Until then, players can take several steps to make the existing system as seamless as can be.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has continued to perform strongly since its March release, going on to outsell Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokémon Sword & Shield in Japan. In fact, the game has become such a hit during the current COVD-19 crisis that late night comedian John Oliver voiced a “conspiracy theory” that Nintendo designed the novel coronavirus so that Animal Crossing: New Horizons would stay the hit that it is.
Still, however, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has done well with players new and old, even boosting Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’s revenue for the month of April. Further, the game may well see continued success into summer, as new bugs and fish emerge in-game.
